Lifetime® in Canada has picked up the enchanting drama series Witches of East End, starring Julia Ormond (Mad Men), Jenna Dewan-Tatum (American Horror Story), Rachel Boston (In Plain Sight) and Mädchen Amick (Twin Peaks) for launch this year. Set to debut day-and-date with Lifetime® in the U.S., the series joins a remarkable roster of scripted dramas including The Client List and the all-new Devious Maids coming this summer.
Based on Melissa de la Cruz’s best-selling novel, Witches of East End follows Joanna Beauchamp (Ormond) and her two adult daughters Freya (Dewan-Tatum) and Ingrid (Boston) whom, unbeknownst to them, are their family’s next generation of witches. Leading ordinary modern day lives in Long Island’s secluded seaside town of East Haven, when Freya becomes engaged to a wealthy newcomer, a series of events forces Joanna to admit to her daughters they are powerful and immortal witches. Mädchen Amick stars as Joanna’s mischievous witch sister Wendy.
Maggie Friedman (Dawson’s Creek) wrote the pilot, which was directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls), and will executive produce Witches of East End with Erwin Stoff (The Matrix) of 3 Arts Entertainment. Lifetime® has ordered 10 episodes of the Fox 21-produced series.
Witches of East End joins Lifetime®’s fast-growing slate of scripted series including the hit drama The Client List, starring and executive produced by Jennifer Love Hewitt. Additionally, this year Lifetime® will launch the all-new drama Devious Maids,from executive producers Marc Cherry, Sabrina Wind, Eva Longoria, Paul McGuigan, Larry Shuman, David Lonner, John Mass, Paul Presburger and Michael Garcia. Following the lives of five maids with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills, Devious Maids stars Ana Ortiz, Judy Reyes, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Edy Ganem, Grant Show, Brianna Brown, Rebecca Wisocky, Tom Irwin, Mariana Klaveno, Brett Cullen, Drew Van Acker and television icon Susan Lucci.
