Get Comfortable with AWKWARD with the Season 3 Premiere April 16, Exclusively on MuchMusic

Since its debut in 2011, critics have been raving about AWKWARD. On April 16 this quirky, clever series returns exclusively to Much with an hour-long premiere event featuring the first two episodes back-to-back at 10 p.m. ET, and 10:30 p.m. ET. In Season 3, viewers can expect more wit, sass, and (mostly) awkward encounters from the charming, yet neurotic Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards), who finds herself in a whole new slew of hilarious situations. Season 3 also sees Canadian actor Nolan Gerald Funk (GLEE) and Anthony Michael Hall (Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles) join the AWKWARD cast as a prep school transfer student and a sadistic creative writing teacher, respectively.

Narrated in the first-person voice of Jenna’s blog posts, AWKWARD captures the humour within the struggles and experiences everyone can relate to from their formative years. From a secret relationship with a popular guy, to being undermined by a mean girl, and parents who just don’t get it, Jenna’s misfortune eventually serves as the catalyst for amazing change, but it’s not without some missteps and mishaps along the way.

Here’s what the critics have to say about AWKWARD:

“She (Rickards) navigates the sharky waters of high school, friends, mean cheerleaders, and cute boys with a snarky voice-over that makes her, and AWKWARD, easy to fall in love with.” – Entertainment Weekly

“The life of an everyday American high school girl has rarely been rendered with such sly and funny precision as it is in MTV’s aptly named Awkward.”
– San Francisco Chronicle

“If the dramas are exaggerated, Jenna makes the trauma feel legitimate, and her narration gives everything a knowing undertone of humor and self-awareness that keeps the most uncomfortable moments from being painful.” – New York Daily News

“Thanks to clever dialogue, AWKWARD manages to rise above its been-there, watched-that premise.” – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

In the first two seasons of AWKWARD, Jenna Hamilton tackled the age-old questions all teenagers face of, who she is, and she wants to be with. Season three picks up with Jenna feeling left behind now that Ming and Tamara start to blossom socially, in ways that she hasn’t. Jenna finds herself starting to question if there is more for her beyond her love life, and the life that she knows at Palos Hills.

In the premiere episode (April 16 at 10 p.m. ET), Jenna’s junior year brings a wave of surprises and changes that will potentially impact her future in an indelible way. In the second episode (April 16 at 10:30 p.m. ET), the death of a classmate leaves Jenna to reflect on loss, grieving, and taking responsibility for a secret she’s keeping from Matty.

Full episodes are also available on muchmusic.com, after its broadcast premiere.
