The Grammy®-award winning band Green Day will perform for the fifth time on the VMA stage at the 2012 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS. This performance marks the bands first televised performance of new music off the band’s upcoming studio album trilogy, Green Day ¡Uno!
Green Day joins already announced performers P!NK, Alicia Keys and One Direction. The MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS airs exclusively on MuchMusic Thursday, September 6 at 8 p.m. ET.
Canadian mega-stars nominated for a 2012 VMA include, Drake (sharing top-nominee honours with Rihanna), Carly Rae Jepsen and Justin Bieber.
MTV and multi-platinum selling and Grammy® Award-winning group Green Day today announced a global partnership to debut new music from the first installment of the band’s upcoming studio album trilogy, Green Day ¡Uno!, kicking off with the exclusive worldwide premiere of the new music video “Oh Love” across MTV’s global network of more than 60 channels across 150+ territories in Europe, Latin America, Australia, Africa and Asia on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, beginning at 7:49 P.M. ET, and the first televised performance of new music from the album during the “2012 MTV Video Music Awards” on Thursday, September 6 on MTV at 8 p.m. MTV will also offer fans around the world an exclusive 30-minute interview with Green Day at http://ohlove.mtv.com.
Taking the “2012 MTV Video Music Awards” stage for the fifth time, the band will rock audiences out of their seats when the show airs at 8 p.m. from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. Green Day joins previously announced performers Alicia Keys, who will premiere a brand new song from her upcoming album, and the British boy band phenoms, One Direction, who are first-time VMA performers and nominees.

Prior to the VMAs, fans can catch the band on MTV channels around the world on Wednesday, August 15at 7:49 P.M. ET, as they personally introduce and premiere their new music video “Oh Love” on-air before staying on for an additional 30-minute interview to discuss the new album and reminisce about VMAs past on http://ohlove.mtv.com. The music video was directed by Samuel Bayer, a two-time VMA Moonman recipient for “Best Direction” for Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” in 2005 and Justin Timberlake’s “”What Goes Around… Comes Around” in 2007.
Green Day recently completed the recording of three albums – a trilogy entitled Green Day ¡Uno!, Green Day ¡Dos!, Green Day ¡Tres! – that will be released by Reprise Records on Tuesday, September 25; Tuesday, November 13 and Tuesday, January 13, 2013 respectively. The albums are the follow-up to the Grammy® Award-winning 21st Century Breakdown, and are being produced by the band’s long-time producer Rob Vanallo. ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tres! was recorded in their hometown of Oakland, CA.
