PSY Announced as Co-Host of the 2013 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS, June 16

Op, Op, Op, Oppa! The biggest block party in the world is about to get wild as MuchMusic announces today that international hit-maker PSY will co-host the 2013 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS. Arguably one of pop culture’s most-recognized names, PSY’s juggernaut hit “Gangnam Style” broke YouTube records last year with more than 1.5 billion views, and counting. Since its release in April, PSY’s current hit single “Gentleman” has garnered more than 325 million views on YouTube, and broken a record for most views in a day with more than 38 million. PSY marks his live Canadian television hosting and performance debut when he hits the MMVA stage this year.Psy

PSY joins previously announced performer Demi Lovato for the 2013 MMVAs, which go down Sunday, June 16 at 9 p.m. ET on Much in Canada and Fuse in the U.S. The MMVAs RED CARPET SPECIAL airs just before at 8 p.m. ET. Additional #MMVA2013 performer and presenter announcements to come.

“I’m looking forward to co-hosting and performing at the MuchMusic Video Awards,” said PSY. “And I’m looking forward to seeing all my fans in Canada!”

“PSY is really going to bring the party to this year’s MMVAs,” said Sheila Sullivan, Executive Producer, 2013 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS. “His explosive energy and fun approach to music is a great fit for the MMVAs, and our audience. With PSY fronting the show, the biggest street party in the world just got that much louder.”

Making his debut in 2001 with the extraordinary song “Bird,” PSY has been beloved by the public for more than a decade. Since releasing his first single, PSY has maintained his unique musical colour in producing various hit songs such as “Champion,” “Paradise,” “Entertainer,” ‘Right Now,” and “Shake It.” PSY returned to the music scene on July 18, 2012 with his brand new album PSY 6 Part 1, which includes the global sensation title song “Gangnam Style.” PSY rewrote K-POP history by setting a record of 1.5 billion views and counting on YouTube, and by topping the U.S.’s iTunes TOP10 SONGS list. Famous for his unique dance moves, and witty stage presence, PSY is widely regarded as the “King of Concerts” in his native South Korea.

Fans can follow the countdown to the 2013 MMVAs on MuchMusic.com or on Twitter@MuchMusic to get the latest announcements on performers, presenters, celebrity guests, the chance to win big prizes, and updates on the all-important Your Fave Wildcard voting.

For the fourth year in a row, the MMVAs are simulcast live in the U.S. on Fuse, the national music television network of The Madison Square Garden Company. Additionally, MusiquePlus will air the show, Monday, July 1 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
