Top 3 in the 2012 MMVAs Covers Award Search Annouonced

The competition is down to the wire as MuchMusic and Coca-Cola announced the Top 3 finalists for the 2012 Covers competition, on a special episode of NEW.MUSIC.LIVE. earlier today. The Top 3 contenders, Tyler Shaw (19) – Coquitlam, BC, Brooke MacArthur (14) – Summerside, PEI, and Kayla Patrick (15) – Edmonton, AB have scored a VIP trip to the 2012 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS on June 17, and their own, individual 30-second commercial. Fans can go online now to view and rate the latest Covers submissions from the Top 3 finalists as they compete for the Grand Prize; being crowned the winner of the Covers 2012 MuchMusic Video Award! New for this year’s Covers competition, the Grand prize winner also gets to work with Sony Music Canada’s A&R team to record and release an original digital single and shoot a music video funded by MuchFACT.

Beginning in February, Much viewers were given the chance to submit their own versions of selected hit songs and post them on covers.muchmusic.com. After more than 1,300 submissions and rounds of judging based on fan views, ratings, and an extensive panel, the Top 3 were chosen. Click on the name of the finalists below for full details and to view all of their submissions to date:

Brooke MacArthur (14) – Summerside, PEIThe youngest of all three finalists, Brooke MacArthur has showcased a passion for music her entire life. From making her own music videos and performing at various events around her small town of Summerside, PEI, Brooke has never strayed away from her big dream: to become the next big singing sensation.

Kayla Patrick (15) – Edmonton, AB
Having grown up around music, Kayla can not recall a time when she hasn’t been singing. She puts this love for music to use by not only showcasing her strong vocal range, but also by playing the guitar and writing her own songs. Kayla hopes to bring something new to the world of music, and believes this competition will give her the big break she has always dreamed of.

Tyler Shaw (19) – Coquitlam, BC
BC native Tyler Shaw found a guitar under a staircase at the age of 13, and hasn’t been able to put it down since. He hopes his positive attitude, energy, passion, and dedication to music will set him apart from the competition.
