Sports Dads, takes a look at the stress filled lives of kids being groomed for sports stardom – whether they want it or not. The emotional and physical pressures placed on 11-14 year old athletes from their sports-obsessed parents is a very real and problematic trend. These are talented kids who have spent the better part of their childhood training to become mega-athletes. The child athlete culture has parents fixating on only one aspect of their kids’ lives, and they lose focus on what is important. These Sports Dads (and Moms) need a time out.
Deion Sanders, one of the most versatile athletes in history and the only player to compete in the World Series and Super Bowl, responds to pleas for help by showing up unannounced to intervene between these unsuspecting parents and their teen athletes. He pushes back when these kids are pushed beyond their limits, and examines the toll such efforts can take on children. Sanders forces parents to realize that their good intentions may be damaging their kids and forms a “Game Plan” to create a balance between sports, health and family. He mentors kids and their parents towards a positive self-image and success and reiterates that sports should be fun and never compromise your health and happiness.
