TIFF + Bell Media’s Crave Announce Additional Virtual Chats and Screenings For Stay-At-Home Cinema Experience, April 14, 16 and 18

TIFF and Bell Media’s Crave continue to bring Canadians together to experience film from the comfort of their own homes. The next installments of Stay-at-Home Cinema will take place Tuesday, April 14, Thursday, April 16, and Saturday, April 18.

Stay-at-Home Cinema is an event to look forward to each week, and a way to connect film lovers to each other while they enjoy classic films. Additional movie titles — all available on Crave — along with special guests are announced each week on TIFF and Crave’s respective social media channels.

On Tuesday, April 14, audiences can watch a virtual Q&A on Instagram Live (@tiff_net) between Peter Kuplowsky, Lead Programmer of TIFF’s Midnight Madness programme, and award-winning filmmaker Matthew Rankin at 10pm EDT. Following the chat, audiences are invited to screen Rankin’s TIFF 2019 City of Toronto Best Canadian First Feature Film Award winner The Twentieth Century on Crave at 10:30pm EDT. This exceptionally entertaining, bizarro biopic reimagines the formative years of former Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King as a series of abject humiliations, and doubles down on Rankin’s reputation for blending historical and aesthetic abstraction.

On April 16 Stay-at-Home Cinema presents the cross-generational, quintessential teen-angst film The Breakfast Club. TIFF Artistic Director and Co-Head Cameron Bailey will engage in a virtual Q&A at 7pm EDT with Breakfast Club star Emilio Estevez before inviting audiences to screen the film on Crave. Actor-director Estevez’s 2018 feature The Public made its world premiere at TIFF.

Yesterday, the film that asks what the world would be like without The Beatles, is the featured offering on Saturday, April 18. Bailey’s virtual Q&A guest is the star of Yesterday, Himesh Patel.

April 16 and April 18’s Stay-at-Home Cinema experiences begin on Instagram Live (@tiff_net) with the virtual Q&As from 7pm to 7:20pm EDT. At 7:30pm EDT, audiences can view the films through Crave (app, web, on demand) and continue the conversation on Twitter (@tiff_net) during their home screening.

Crave recently announced that it is providing one month free for any new, direct-to-consumer subscribers with access to the internet, expanding the trial period during which Canadians can sample the service from seven to 30 days. For a limited time, the one-time-only offer is for first-time, direct-to-consumer subscribers, and can be accessed now on the Crave app or Crave.ca.
