HBO Canada Presents Academy Awards Winner Kate Winslet in MILDRED PIERCE, A Miniseries Event from HBO

Premiering on HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) and Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada), Mildred Pierce brings to life James M. Cain’s revered 1941 novel about a proud single mother who struggles to maintain her family’s social standing and earn her daughter’s love during the Great Depression in middle-class Los Angeles. The five-hour miniseries is directed by Oscar®-nominee Todd Haynes and will premiere over three nights, beginning Sunday, March 27 at 9 p.m. ET/MT.

Starring Kate Winslet in the title role, Mildred Pierce offers an intimate portrait of a uniquely independent and newly divorced woman during the 1930s in middle-class Glendale, California. Forced to hunt for work to support herself and her two young daughters, Mildred swallows her fierce pride, and the scorn of her eldest daughter, to take a job as a diner waitress. With a talent for baking and a tremendous work ethic, Mildred sets her sights on becoming a restaurateur in her own right. Along the way, she finds love with a charming, wealthy idler named Monty Beragon (Guy Pearce), only to endure a heartbreaking personal tragedy. Later, Mildred encourages eldest daughter Veda (played by Evan Rachel Wood in the latter Parts) to pursue her dreams of success and social standing, but her daughter’s practiced airs elicit a stormy love-hate relationship between mother and daughter. The rivalry becomes entangled with a threat to Mildred’s business, and culminates in a shocking act of betrayal. Mildred Pierce also stars: Brian F. O’Byrne, Melissa Leo, James LeGros, Mare Winningham, Morgan Turner, and Hope Davis.

A Todd Haynes Film, Mildred Pierce is a Killer Films/John Wells Productions production. Directed by Todd Haynes from a screenplay by Haynes and Jon Raymond, the film is executive produced by Haynes, Pamela Koffler, Christine Vachon and John Wells, and is co-executive produced by Ilene S. Landress.

HBO Canada will air Mildred Pierce day-and-date with HBO in the U.S.:

* Parts One and Two premiere back-to-back on Sunday, March 27 beginning at 9 p.m. ET/MT
* Part Three premieres on Sunday, April 3 at 9 p.m. ET/MT
* Parts Four and Five premiere back-to-back on Sunday, April 10 beginning at 9 p.m. ET/MT

All five Parts will be broadcast in High Definition, and will be available on demand following their network premieres. In Eastern Canada the series will be available via HBO Canada OnLine with Rogers, Bell TV and Videotron and in Western Canada via HBO Canada Online with Shaw Video On Demand and Bell TV Online.

HBO Canada is a multiplex channel offered by Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada).
