The hilarious BAFTA award-winning British comedy series, Peep Show, from Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain (Fresh Meat), returns for an eighth season to Super Channel, Canada’s only national English pay-television network, on Monday, April 8 at 9 p.m. ET.
Starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, Peep Show follows the increasingly complicated lives of aging flatmates and best buddies Mark and Jeremy (Jez) a couple of twenty-something roommates who have nothing in common – except for the fact that their lives are anything but normal. Mayhem ensues as the pair strives to cope with day-to-day life.
Mark Corrigan (David Mitchell) is anal with a hint of OCD, his glass is not so much half-full as fully empty. He probably spilt it himself. Living with his old university pal Jez in the dilapidated Apollo House, he faces up to one crushing defeat after another. For a long time, the single beacon of hope preventing Corrigan from dashing his life onto the rocks below was his love for ex-colleague Sophie (Olivia Colman). Despite their courtship starting badly, and then getting worse, she was the best thing in his otherwise hopeless trajectory. Although she had Mark’s baby she’s very much out of love with him, leaving Mark tied by a newborn child to someone who essentially hates everything about him.
Jeremy Usbourne (Robert Webb) is Mark’s old university mate, who lives a fantasy life as a successful musician. Back in the real world, he’s a drifting waster. In stark contrast to Mark’s angst and self-loathing, Jez is carefree and narcissistic – and still convinced that he’s destined for big things in the music business. Equally naïve is his view of buddy and band-mate Super Hans (Matt King), who he places on a pedestal. Super Hans is Jeremy’s partner in crime, both in life and the band – and a constant source of bad ideas for both.
As season 8 begins, Mark is buoyed by his growing relationship with Dobby (Isy Suttie). This could be it; there could be hope for Mark after all. Now, all he has to do is get her to actually move in with him and get Jeremy to move out. But Jeremy has been dragging his heels and Mark is increasingly worried that Dobby will move in with his rival Gerrard (Jim Howick) instead.
Peep Show airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET (6 episodes x 30 min).
