Super Channel is proud to present a full day of Canadian programming for National Canadian Film Day on Wednesday, April 20. From sun-up to sun-down and beyond, there will be something Canadian to watch on Super Channel’s Fuse, Heart & Home and Vault channels. From classic Canadian comedies and dramas to heartwarming romances and edge-of-your-seat horror, there is something for everyone to celebrate their love of Canadian film round-the-clock.
Highlights on Super Channel Fuse include the multi award-winning Jasmine Road from writer/director Warren Sulatycky, an emotional and empathetic story of a Syrian family who find themselves in Southern Alberta and From the Vine a funny and poignant film directed by Sean Cisterna and starring Paula Brancati, Joe Pantoliano and Wendy Crewson. For horror fans, the lineup includes Don’t Say Its Name, from Cree writer/director Reuben Martell. Shortly after a Native anti-mining activist is killed in a mysterious hit-and-run, horrific murders start occurring in the snowfields of his isolated reserve. A police chief and a Metis veteran investigate, confronting a world of ancient myths.
On Super Channel Heart & Home, highlights include The Way to the Heart, shot in Prince George and directed by Wendy Ord. Megan Heffern stars as a big-city chef who has lost her spark and returns to her hometown to save her job and rediscover her passion for food and “The Way to the Heart.” The film also stars real-life Food Network chef Bob Blumer. Cabin Connection directed by Virginia Abramovich stars Katherine Barrell, Cody Ray Thompson and Art Hindle. When lifestyle writer and committed bachelorette Hannah inherits her late grandmother’s cabin, she hires widowed handyman Cole to help get it in shape to sell. As Hannah spends time with Cole, her faith in love and relationships is restored.
On Super Channel Vault, highlights include the Canadian classic The Stone Angel based on the bestselling novel by Margaret Laurence and starring Oscar(c) winner Ellen Burstyn, Elliot Page and Sheila McCarthy. The film was directed by Canadian born, Emmy-nominated, BAFTA award-winning director Kari Skogland, who has become one of the world’s most prolific female directors of one-hour dramas and features. Also featured is The Lesser Blessed, a drama centered on a First Nations teenager trying to find his place in the modern world, starring Joel Nathan Evans, Kiowa Gordon, Chloe Rose and Benjamin Bratt.
