Ready, set, drive. Sportsnet’s exclusive coverage of the IZOD IndyCar Series kicks into high gear this weekend with the first race of the 2013 season – the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida. Coverage begins with pre-qualifying action tomorrow (Saturday, March 24) at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet West, followed by the race on Sunday, March 24 beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific, and RogersAnyplaceTV.com.
Immediately prior to Sunday’s race, Sportsnet’s all-access IndyCar coverage is ignited with a 30-minute pre-race show featuring in-depth profiles of Canada’s two IndyCar drivers – Oakville’s James Hinchcliffe and Montreal’s Alex Tagliani. The behind-the-scenes exposure also includes an Indy 101 with Tagliani, who shares the finer points of the sport, and Hinchcliffe discussing the safety and personal statements of drivers’ helmets.
Host Rob Faulds is joined by long-time analyst and Canadian Motorsport Hall of Famer Bill Adam, pit reporter Todd Lewis, Canadian and former Champ Car champion Paul Tracy, and a special appearance by Brian Johnson, lead singer of AC/DC.
From directly beside the track and pit area, Sportsnet’s IndyCar panel will provide pre-race, in-race and post-race coverage of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, including the latest news, strategies and analysis, and interviews with the top drivers right before they strap in for the first race of the season.
Sportsnet will deliver a minimum of 16 IZOD IndyCar Series races this season, as part of a new five-year multiplatform agreement, which begins this season and runs through 2017.
