Rogers Sportsnet will field one of Canada’s best soccer prodigies with the addition of Kara Lang for its coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011(tm).
“I’m very excited about joining Sportsnet for their coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The women’s game is growing rapidly around the world and I can’t wait to help bring all of the action to Canadian soccer fans this summer,” said Lang. “I’m also looking forward to working alongside Craig and Gerry, and having the opportunity to learn from two of the best in the business.”
Lang, along with Craig Forrest, will be the studio analysts with host Gerry Dobson for the nightly 30-minute wrap-up show FIFA Women’s World Cup(tm) Today, airing on match days during the FIFA Women’s World Cup(tm). Sportsnet’s coverage will include Louis Jean and Stephen Brunt reporting on-location in Germany to provide viewers more insight from the tournament.
“Kara Lang is one of the most decorated and popular Canadian national team members in history,” Rob Corte, Vice-President, Production, Rogers Sportsnet. “Her passion, expertise and knowledge of the game will be a huge asset to our extensive coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
Lang made headlines early in her career by becoming the youngest player ever to play for the Canadian Women’s National Soccer team and score in international competition – at just 15 years-old in 2002. Lang has represented her country in over 90 matches, scoring 33 goals. On the world stage, she’s competed in the 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cups, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and recently helped the women’s team qualify for the upcoming 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Her collegiate career began as the NCAA’s top recruit and chose to attend the University of California in 2005. Lang set UCLA’s freshman record for both goals and assists, which earned her a spot on the Soccer Buzz Freshman All-American team and All-PAC-10 Freshman Team.
