Rogers To Launch SportsNet Magazine

Rogers Media today announced that it will launch Canada’s first national bi-weekly sports magazine, leveraging Rogers Sportsnet, to connect readers with the premiere source for sports features and opinion.

Featuring homegrown content produced by a soon-to-be-assembled team of leading Canadian writers, editors and photojournalists, the magazine created for our
nation’s fans will arrive on newsstands and in mailboxes across the country starting fall 2011.

When launched, Sportsnet magazine clearly establishes the Sportsnet brand as one of Canada’s leaders in delivering sports content on multiple platforms. On television Rogers Sportsnet connects fans to their favourite teams and athletes, broadcasting more games of the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball than any other Canadian broadcaster. Sportsnet is comprised of five channels: four regional channels and the nationally distributed Sportsnet ONE.

Over radio airwaves, the Sportsnet brand comes to life for listeners in Toronto and Calgary on Sportsnet Radio FAN 590 and Sportsnet Radio FAN 960 respectively.

Like its broadcast teammates, Sportsnet magazine will play in the digital field via its online companion-sportsnet.ca.

The magazine will use the power of the printed word and compelling visuals to deliver expertise, deep analysis and insight-sports storytelling from expert insiders with a Canadian regional and national point-of-view. Sportsnet magazine will tell the stories that fuel the passions of millions of Canadians who cram into arenas and stadiums across the country, and who make sure they’re home in time to watch the big game. The magazine will focus on the major professional leagues and
the premier amateur events, with particular focus on the teams and stars that Canadians care most about.

“Sportsnet magazine will be Canada’s leading source for in-depth perspective and inside reports on hockey, baseball, football, soccer and MMA to name just a few,” said Ken Whyte, Executive Vice-President, Consumer Publishing, Rogers Publishing Limited. “There’s a unique audience experience that only magazines can provide and when you combine that experience with the unmatched reach and power of Sportsnet’s broadcast and digital platforms, you get a winner for both the fans and the advertisers.”

Sportsnet magazine will be published 26 times a year and will launch with a circulation of 100,000 copies. Details about the team at the magazine as well as information about how to subscribe and advertise will be unveiled in the weeks and months to come.
