Rogers Sportsnet recorded its second-highest regional hockey audience for this season with 914,000 (2+) for the Toronto Maple Leafs-Washington Capitals game on Tuesday, April 5 on Sportsnet Ontario.
According to BBM Canada’s overnight preliminary data, Sportsnet also attracted a total of 1.6 million viewers (2+) – including NHL hockey on the Sportsnet East, Ontario and West channels, along with the Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics game on the Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet ONE channels on Tuesday, April 5.
The broadcast for the Leafs and Capitals game was up 29 per cent from last season’s average of 656,000. The highest-rated Leafs broadcast on Sportsnet Ontario was 956,200 during this season’s tilt against the Montreal Canadiens on February 24. In addition, the Sportsnet Connected prime edition following the Leafs game was 446,000 viewers, up 40 per cent over the season average of 268,000.
The Jays on Rogers Sportsnet broadcast attracted 363,000 viewers who watched Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar blast a walkoff homer in the 10th inning for a 7-6 win over the Athletics.
The Edmonton Oilers’ 2-0 shutout over the No.1-ranked Vancouver Canucks drew an audience of 261,000 on Sportsnet West, 33 per cent above last season’s average of 177,000 viewers.
Sportsnet East had 116,000 viewers witness the Ottawa Senators win 5-2 over the Philadelphia Flyers.
