Advantage, fans! This weekend Sportsnet is taking tennis fans courtside at the Douglas Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver for the highly anticipated Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, featuring Canada vs. Spain. Sportsnet’s multiplatform coverage across TV, radio and digital begins on Friday, Feb. 1 and continues through to Sunday, Feb. 3, with live match broadcasting beginning at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT on Friday, Feb 1 on Sportsnet Ontario, West and Pacific. Sportsnet’s comprehensive coverage kicks off with the Davis Cup Preview Show on Friday, Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet Ontario, West and Pacific. The 30-minute preview show will set up the weekend matches with the latest news and analysis of Team Canada and include a special feature on superstar Milos Raonic’s life and training in Spain. An additional feature on Raonic and Team Canada’s connection to Spain will air during the break between the two singles matches on Friday.
Covering the action from the grounds of UBC will be Sportsnet’s Rob Faulds calling play-by-play alongside analyst Robert Bettauer, a former Canadian Davis Cup team member, while Arash Madani reports from courtside. Host Brad Fay and analyst Damien Cox round out the broadcast team in Vancouver.
Headlining Canada’s Davis Cup Team are world No.15 Milos Raonic, the nation’s highest ranked male singles player of all time; Daniel Nestor, Olympic Games gold medallist and eight-time Grand Slam men’s doubles champion; Frank Dancevic and Vasek Pospisil. The Spanish team consists of world No. 34 Marcel Granollers, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Marc Lopez and Albert Ramos. Canada looks to secure its spot in the World Group quarter-finals to face either Croatia or Italy in April. With a win in Vancouver, Canada will also be assured to keep their spot in the World Group for 2014. The losing nation will play a World Group playoff tie to keep their spot in the elite level for 2014.
