Sportsnet to air 12 hours of daily coverage of Rogers Cup, weekdays

Rogers Sportsnet takes fans courtside to see the world’s best tennis players at the 2011 Rogers Cup with cross-platform coverage on television, radio, online, mobile, and print.

Rogers Sportsnet will broadcast live coverage from Monday, Aug. 8 to Friday, Aug. 12 on Sportsnet ONE, East, Ontario, West and Pacific channels, offering viewers a choice of matches during the daily 12-hour coverage. Coverage begins each day at 11 a.m. ET, with simultaneous coverage of the men’s matches (from Montreal) and women’s matches (from Toronto). Sportsnet’s coverage includes the first three rounds and the quarter-finals.

Once again, the Rogers Cup has attracted the top names in tennis including WTA No.1-ranked and defending Rogers Cup champion Caroline Wozniacki, Serena Williams and Venus Williams. The ATP World Tour will be highlighted by the ATP No.1- ranked player Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

The men’s draw at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal will be called by Rob Faulds at centre court with analysis from Jimmy Arias, a former No.5-ranked singles player on the ATP World Tour. Arash Madani will be the courtside reporter, while RJ Broadhead will have additional coverage from the National Bank court.

In Toronto, Gerry Dobson will call the action from the Stadium Court at Rexall Centre with analysis from Tracy Austin, the two-time U.S. Open singles champion and Wimbledon mixed doubles champion. Dobson and Austin will also cover bonus coverage of the women’s draw from the Grandstand court. The courtside reporter is Evanka Osmak.

Brad Fay and former Canadian Davis Cup player Robert Bettauer will be in Montreal to host both draws, and will be joined by Damien Cox as the Tennis Insider.

Sportsnet Radio The FAN 590 will be on location at Rexall Centre throughout the women’s draw. Listeners can tune in for reaction before and after matches, including up-to-the-minute breaking news.

CityNews will feature up and coming tennis player Kristen Borland, a huge Maria Sharapova fan, from its “Athlete of the Week” sports segment on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The heart-warming story of the nine-year-old pro, who uses the same racquet as Sharapova, will follow Borland’s journey to finally meet her idol at the Rogers Cup. On Saturday, Aug. 6, CityNews will also bring viewers highlights of news anchor Gord Martineau participating in the Rogers Cup Celebrity Tennis match.

Citytv Breakfast Television Toronto and LOULOU magazine

Breakfast Television Toronto will hold the Rogers Cup fashion show on Thursday, Aug. 4 featuring models dressed in tennis player outfits and clothing to wear at tennis matches. LOULOU magazine will select certain clothing from the fashion show that will then be featured with hang tags at the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Citytv is also sponsoring the Free Family Weekend to kick-off the Rogers Cup on Saturday, Aug. 6 and Sunday, Aug. 7 at the Rexall Centre. The free fun-filled weekend includes the Rogers Fastest Serve Zone, interactive games, free on-court tennis clinics, scavenger hunt, face painting, a Q & A with a WTA player, and the chance to win great prizes. Rogers Cup Preview Channel

Rogers cable customers will have an opportunity to watch the Rogers Cup Preview Channel at the Rexall Centre with live scores, updates and features including a feature interview with Milos Raonic.

Maclean’s Magazine will present an eight-page Rogers Cup special in the upcoming Aug. 4 edition. The special will give readers a look at whether Novak Djokovic’s rise will spell the end of the Rafael Nadal/Roger Federer era, Milos Raonic’s former coach dissecting his prized pupil’s big swing, the search for the next big rivalry in women’s tennis and a feature story on Vancouver-native Rebecca Marino’s incredible rise from near obscurity.

Rogers On Demand Online and Rogers On Demand Mobile

Starting Aug. 8, Rogers is also serving up matches for tennis fans. Fans can find live streamed coverage of the 2011 Rogers Cup tennis tournament on Rogers On Demand Online and Rogers On Demand Mobile. The live coverage features up to three matches at any given time from both the ladies’ tournament in Toronto and the men’s tournament in Montreal. Online, customers will have access to additional content including player features, vignettes and interviews and will be able to catch up on matches they miss.
