Bang-on or Bogus: the oak leaf is on the Canadian flag. Which province hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics? Kids and toons face off in the new TELETOON original series Skatoony premiering on Thursday, November 4 at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT. Adapted from the U.K. series of the same name, this innovative game show featuring a mix of live action and animation sees real-life kids compete against an assortment of animated characters, including some familiar faces from the popular TELETOON series Total Drama Island, in a sequence of trivia-based games. Coinciding with the launch of the series, teletoon.com boasts a complete Skatoony microsite featuring TELETOON’s first-ever multi-player game.
“Skatoony has had a very successful run in the U.K. and we are delighted to offer a distinctly Canadian version of the show – with a TELETOON twist – to kids in Canada,” said Carole Bonneau, Vice-President, Programming, TELETOON Canada inc. “It has been particularly exciting to work with our production partners to incorporate some of TELETOON’s most popular animated characters into this brand new show.”
Produced by marblemedia, Skatoony is a Hollywood Squares-inspired animated and live-action hybrid show for kids. In every episode, three young contestants compete against animated characters in four rounds of trivia-based games including “Bang on or Bogus,” “Draw What You Hear and Shout Out When You Know What You’ve Drawn” and “Hoo Flung Dung.” Each week Skatoony’s cartoon host Chudd Chudders and his sidekick The Earl attempt to put together another spectacular show, despite all manner of mad happenings and one greedy studio exec Charles La Puck who seems to conspire against them.
Skatoony started out as a web series and went on to become the most popular show on Cartoon Network in the U.K. The homegrown version of the series features all-Canadian creative talent, Canadian trivia questions and special appearances by fan-favourite characters from the Fresh TV–produced TELETOON series Total Drama Island.
In tandem with the premiere of the television series on November 4, TELETOON will launch the Skatoony microsite on teletoon.com, featuring bonus videos, show and character information, downloadable activities and several Skatoony games. The microsite will also be host to TELETOON’s first ever multi-player online game, the “Skatoony Home Game” produced by marblemedia. Players will have the opportunity to create their own character and test out their Skatoony skills against other live kids as well as animated characters from the show.
Viewers can also check out the hilarity on-air even sooner when TELETOON airs a special sneak peek of Skatoony on Thursday, October 28 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT.
Skatoony was produced by marblemedia for TELETOON Canada Inc., based on the Cartoon Network U.K. format.
