TSN confirmed today that Olympic Games silver medallist and fan favourite Cheryl Bernard has been named to the TSN CURLING SKINS GAME and will take on her Vancouver 2010 Team Canada teammate and Olympic gold medallist Kevin Martin in the first round of the event. World Champion Kevin Koe has also been confirmed for the TSN CURLING SKINS GAME and will face British Olympian and defending Skins champion David Murdoch to round out the star-studded first round matches.
Each year, the TSN CURLING SKINS GAME attracts the world’s best curlers as they compete for $100,000 in prize money. The event will take place January 22 and 23, 2011 at Casino Rama in Rama, ON.
“We’ve never had the opportunity to take on such a high caliber of men’s teams so we jumped at the chance to participate in the TSN CURLING SKINS GAME,” said Bernard. “The venue, format and interaction with the fans will definitely make for a fun weekend of curling. But watch out guys – we are playing to win.”
Bernard’s participation marks only the second time a women’s team has played against men at the event. Jennifer Jones took on Glenn Howard in the opening round of the 2009 game. Bernard, who became a household name after her medal-winning performance at Vancouver 2010, will share her thoughts on the game against Martin in an exclusive interview with Michael Landsberg today on OFF THE RECORD at 6 p.m. ET on TSN.
Operated by TSN Events, this marks the fourth year in a row that Casino Rama will host the TSN Curling Skins Game. TSN is actively pursuing a new title sponsor for the Curling Skins Game. Returning sponsors for 2011 include ASPIRIN, Carlton Cards and Crabby Joe’s.
