Canada’s most promising young hockey players face off against the best teams from around the world as TSN delivers live coverage of the 2010 IIHF WORLD UNDER-18 CHAMPIONSHIP from Minsk and Bobruisk, Belarus, beginning Sunday, April 18. TSN’s coverage features at least four games*, including Team Canada’s final preliminary round game, one quarter-final match-up, one semifinal match-up, and the Gold Medal final (see broadcast schedule below). All games are also available on-demand at TSN.ca.
TSN’s Dave Randorf calls the action from the broadcast booth alongside game analyst Dave Reid. Rod Black hosts the coverage and is joined in the TSN studio by Jeff Twohey, former general manager of the Peterborough Petes.
Team Canada looks to improve on its fourth place finish in last year’s tournament. Since Canada began competing in the IIHF WORLD UNDER-18 CHAMPIONSHIP in 2002, the team has made it to the podium three times, winning gold twice (2008, 2003) and silver once (2005).
The 22-man roster is comprised of players whose teams are no longer competing in the CHL playoffs. Guy Carbonneau is coach of Team Canada and is joined behind the bench by assistant coaches George Burnett, head coach and general manager of the OHL’s Belleville Bulls, and Rob Sumner, head coach of the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds.
