For the first time in network history, TSN has complete and exclusive live coverage of all rounds of the WIMBLEDON Championships – recognized as the oldest and one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. Coverage of WIMBLEDON begins on Monday, June 25 at 6:30 a.m. ET and includes the men’s and women’s final matches (see broadcast schedule below).Last year, TSN extended its partnership with the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet club with an extensive multimedia rights agreement making Canada’s Sports Leader the exclusive Canadian broadcaster for WIMBLEDON for the next 10 years. This year’s tournament marks the first time that TSN will broadcast the final weekend featuring both the men’s and women’s championship matches.
TSN’s 118 hours of live WIMBLEDON coverage includes both the men’s and women’s Early Round and Round of 16 matches, along with the quarter-finals, semifinals and final – all from the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in London, which will also host the tennis matches for the 2012 Olympic Games.
TSN’s live coverage of WIMBLEDON is also available on TSN Mobile TV, while French-language coverage is available on RDS.
Also making its debut on TSN this year is the iconic BREAKFAST AT WIMBLEDON – an on-site, pre-match show providing an overview of the days’ matches and interviews with players, plus analysis of the matches already completed.
In addition to TSN’s live broadcast coverage, TSN.ca has exclusive bonus court live streaming of select matches, along with the latest news, highlights, scores, stats and a photo gallery of the tennis action happening on the courts.
Tennis players on the men’s side to watch include 21-year-old Thornhill, ON native Milos Raonic and Vancouver native Vasek Pospisil. At the No. 21-seed, Raonic is the highest ranked Canadian singles player at this year’s tournament. He is joined on the men’s side by No. 1-ranked and defending WIMBLEDON Champion Novak Djokovic, and No. 2-ranked and two-time WIMBLEDON champ Rafael Nadal, who recently defeated Djokovic at the FRENCH OPEN.
The men’s doubles side includes Canadian Daniel Nestor, who is looking to win his second straight Grand Slam title this year with partner Max Mirnyi. The top-ranked doubles duo defeated American twins Bob and Mike Bryan to win their second successive FRENCH OPEN doubles title last month.
Over on the women’s side, Aleksandra Wozniak from Blainville, QC and Stephanie Dubois from Laval, QC will both compete at WIMBLEDON. All eyes will be on the Williams sisters as they both return to battle after being eliminated in the first round at the FRENCH OPEN. Serena is a four-time WIMBLEDON champion while Venus is a five-time WIMBLEDON winner. No. 1-ranked and 2004 WIMBLEDONchamp Maria Sharapova, who is the sixth woman in the Open Era and 10th all-time to complete the career Grand Slam, enters WIMBLEDON looking to add to her winnings this year. Last year’s WIMBLEDON winner, No. 4-ranked Petra Kvitova will be looking to repeat her WIMBLEDON victory.
WIMBLEDON is part of TSN and TSN2’s tennis broadcast schedule that consists of all four Grand Slam tournaments, including the U.S. OPEN, running August 27 to September 9.
