“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” – Acts 2:4
Pentecost is one of the most important festivals in the Christian calendar. Falling 50 days after Easter, it commemorates the events that marked the birth of the Christian church.
According to The New Testament’s book of Acts, the disciples of Jesus were gathered together, on the 50th day after his resurrection, when the Holy Ghost descended upon them with the sound “of a rushing mighty wind.” Tongues of flame came to rest on each person, empowering them to go out and preach the word of Christ in all the languages of the land.
On Friday May 21, VisionTV celebrates Pentecost with the Canadian premiere broadcast of the original documentary Pentecost: Heaven on Earth. The hour-long film airs across Canada at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PT.
Pentecost: Heaven on Earth examines the origins of the festival and its significance in the evolution of the Christian world.
Millions of Christians all over the globe celebrate Pentecost (sometimes called “Whitsunday”) every year. Traveling from Canada to Greece, Italy, Ukraine and beyond, the documentary explains why this day holds such a powerful place in the lives of believers.
Pentecost: Heaven on Earth was produced for VisionTV by Winnipeg-based Sunburst Productions Ltd (Lost Tales of the Brothers Grimm). Jeff Thiessen is the producer; Quinn Merkeley directed.
