Sunday
Bachelor in Paradise – 8-to-10pm on ABC – 2nd Season Premiere
I’m anxious for this reality show spinoff (of the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise) to begin…so those annoying, whiny promos for it will stop polluting the airwaves! For those of you who will enjoy it, though, in addition to this two-hour season premiere, the show will settle into its regular time slot on Mondays at 9, followed by another hour called After Paradise. (Have they milked this show dry or what?)
Monday
Significant Mother – 9:30pm on The CW – Series Premiere
Josh Zuckerman stars in this sitcom as Nate Marlowe, a budding restaurateur who returns from a business trip to find that his recently separated mother (Krista Allen) has started dating his best friend (Nathaniel Buzolic). Add to the mix Nate’s dad (Jonathan Silverman), who has suddenly decided that he wants his wife back…and then, the fun begins!
Tuesday
CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock – 8-to-11pm on ABC
This special is hosted by Little Big Town and features country superstars including Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Florida Georgia Line and Lady Antebellum.
Wednesday
Mr. Robinson – 9pm on NBC – Series Premiere (two episodes)
Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine) stars as Craig Rice, a musician who needs to find a day job and ends up becoming a substitute teacher, considering it an easy job. He discovers that there’s more to it than popping a video on for the students while their regular teacher is away. Peri Gilpin (Roz from Frasier) plays his principal, who is not impressed by him. Spencer Grammer (Kelsey’s daughter) also co-stars.
These two episodes also air on Friday at 8pm on Global.
America’s Next Top Model – 8pm on The CW – 22nd Season Premiere
Tyra Banks and her team are back for another round of finding the next top model that no one will ever hear from again.
Thursday
Maclean’s National Leaders Debate – 8-to-10pm on City, OMNI and CPAC
Maclean’s Paul Wells hosts this debate that will hopefully help Canadians decide who should be Canada’s next Prime Minister. One aspect that sets this debate apart from others is that Green Party leader Elizabeth May is being included with Stephen Harper (Conservatives), Justin Trudeau (Liberals) and Thomas Mulcair (NDP).
News Your Own Adventure: The Quest for the Best Daily Show Segments – 10pm on Comedy
Before Jon Stewart bids The Daily Show farewell at 11pm, his final batch of correspondents (Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj and Jessica Williams) present classic clips and favourite segments from Stewart’s 18 seasons on the show that sometimes feels newsier than the actual news.
Friday
Love Child – 10pm on CBC – Series Premiere
This Australian drama follows the lives of staff and residents at Kings Cross Hospital and Stanton House in Sydney in 1969. It centres on the controversial practice of the time of forcing unmarried mothers to put their babies up for adoption (for which Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard apologized in 2013).
The Comment Section – 10:30pm on E! – Series Premiere
Think of E!’s The Soup with a focus on the internet. That’s the idea behind this show produced by The Soup’s host, Joel McHale (and following that show on Friday nights). It aims to explore the biggest internet stories of the week and the wackiest comments made by people who tend to get a little crazy (I can say that; I am one of them). If you enjoy The Soup, you’ll likely enjoy this (and who knows? Maybe your comment will pop up sometime!).
