TV GORD’S WHAT’S ON FOR THE WEEK OF August 20-27, 2016

Now that the summer games are winding down, there are some highlights trickling back onto the summer lineups. Since this column has been dormant for the past two weeks, I’ve added an extra day to fill you in on how you can make the most of The Tragically Hip’s presumed swan song. Happy viewing!

Saturday (Bonus day!)

The Hip on Much – 6am to 4pm, 6pm to 8:30 on Much

A day of Tragically Hip videos and interviews leading up to the final concert on CBC.

 The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration – LIVE 8:30 to 11pm on CBC

CBC takes time out of its Olympics coverage for the band’s final concert in their hometown of Kingston.

Sunday

Fear The Walking Dead – 9 to 10:01pm on AMC – Mid-Season Premiere

The remainder of season two premieres, followed by the two-hour post-show, Talking Dead.

The Voice: The Blind Auditions Premiere – 10:30 to 11pm on NBC/CTV Two – Season 11 Premiere/Preview

Taking advantage of the Olympics audience, The Voice previews the blind auditions for season 11.

Monday

Undercover – 9pm to 10pm on CBC – British Miniseries Premiere

This six-part British miniseries follows the life of lawyer Maya Cobbina (Sophie Okenedo), whose life is about to be upended by family secrets and revelations. Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit) portrays an American death row inmate who is one of her clients.

Tuesday

The View: 20 Years in the Making – 10pm on ABC

The daytime talk show’s co-hosts—including creator Barbara Walters–and celebrity fans share stories and memories of the first 19 years.

Better Late Than Never – 10pm on NBC/Global – Series Premiere

Henry Winkler produces and stars in this reality-comedy series about celebrities (William Shatner, Terry Bradshaw and George Foreman) backpack through Asia without luxuries while checking things off their bucket lists. Based on a South Korean series.

Halt and Catch Fire – 9pm on AMC – 3rd Season Premiere

Wednesday

Cleveland Hustles – 10pm on CNBC – Series Premiere

LeBron James produces and hosts this reality/business series to help Cleveland entrepreneurs get businesses up and running. James says he wanted to do the show to make a difference in the struggling city.

Thursday

The Special Needs Hotel – 8 to 9pm on CBC – Series Premiere

This UK reality series follows a group of people with learning disabilities as they train to work in the hospitality industry.

Friday

Four in the Morning – 9pm on CBC – Series Premiere

The comedic and dramatic adventures of four Canadian friends in their 20s who regularly get together at 4am. (Co-star Daniel Maslany, who portrays Bondurant, is the younger brother of Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany.)

Saturday

Aquarius – 9 to 11pm on NBC

The remaining six episodes of season two have been exiled to Saturday nights, which does not bode well for a third season.
