TV Gord’s WHAT’S ON for the week of January 13th to 19th, 2019

Is it me, or does it seem that more shows are premiering at this time of year than in the fall? When you add in all of the shows that are returning from the mid-season break, it’s quite a cluttered schedule. I hope this helps you find some of this week’s highlights, including the returns of true Detective, Victoria, and Spock joins the cast of Star Trek: Discovery. Happy viewing!

Victoria – 9 to 10pm on PBS – 3rd Season Premiere

True Detective – 9 to 10pm on HBO – 3rd Season Premiere

American Style – 9 to 10pm on CNN – Series Premiere

A look at how fashion has influenced American culture kicks off with an examination of how the 1940s and ‘50s styles were influenced by wartime and by Hollywood.

Winner Cake All – 9 to 10pm on Food Network – Series Premiere

Giada de Laurentiis hosts this competition series that pits four cake-making teams to decorate a cake for a destination bachelorette party.

Windy City Rehab – 9 to 10pm on HGTV – Series Premiere

A couple buys a 1900s-era house that was converted into a two-apartment dwelling. Now, Alison and Donovan are working to turn it back into a single-family home, but every decision keeps adding to their bottom line.

Total Bellas – 9 to 10pm on E! – 4th Season Premiere

Victoria & Albert: The Wedding – 10 to 11pm on PBS – Series Premiere

A companion piece to the returning Victoria on Masterpiece, this series looks at the stories behind the dress, the food and the music at the Royal Wedding.

Monday

The Passage – 9 to 10pm on Fox – Series Premiere

Mark-Paul Gosselaar stars in this drama about an emerging pandemic and the struggle to find an antidote. When experimentation on death-row inmates goes horribly wrong, scientists find a young girl who might be the only person to stop the illness. Gosselaar plays the federal agent assigned to bring the girl in, but he goes rogue in an effort to protect her from becoming a guinea pig.

Teen Mom 2 – 9 to 10pm on MTV – 9th Season Premiere

Made in Staten Island – 10 to 11pm on MTV – Series Premiere

Eight young New Yorkers try to stay on the straight and narrow in spite of their family mob ties in this reality series.

Valley of the Boom – 9 to 11pm (two episodes) on National Geographic – Series Premiere

Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale, The West Wing) and Steve Zahn (The Crossing, Treme) star in this docudrama that examines the boom and bust 1990s in Silicon Valley.

Tuesday

Roswell, New Mexico – 9 to 10pm on The CW/Showcase – Series Premiere

Jeanine Mason (Grey’s Anatomy) stars as Liz Ortecho, a biomedical researcher who returns to her hometown to learn that her teenage crush is actually an alien who has kept that secret his entire life…until a violent attack reveals a greater alien presence on Earth.

American Experience – 9 to 11pm on PBS – 31st Season Premiere

Wild Korea – 9 to 10pm on NatGeo Wild – Series Premiere

A look at the incredible wildlife and stunning natural beauty of Korea.

Temptation Island – 10 to 11pm on E! Canada – Series Premiere

Four couples at a crossroad in their relationships put their love to the test in this reality series and social experiment.

Corporate – 10:30 to 11pm on Much – 2nd Season Premiere

Home Made Simple – 9 to 10pm (two episodes) on OWN – 13th Season Premiere

Deadly Class – 10 to 11pm on Space – Series Premiere

Based on the comic book of the same name, this series opens with Marcus, a homeless orphan, being recruited to join Kings Dominion, a top assassin academy.

In Pursuit with John Walsh – 10 to 11pm on Investigation Discovery – Series Premiere

The former America’s Most Wanted host launches a new series that once again focuses on murders and their mayhem in an effort to bring them to justice.
