TV GORD’S WHAT’S ON for the week of June 18th to 24th, 2017

All times eastern

NBC’s summer medical drama, The Night Shift, and Comedy’s Lost parody, Wrecked, return for new seasons. CBC reruns the final Tragically Hip concert, and Mike Myers (sort of) tries his hand at hosting The Gong Show. All that, the Much Music Video Awards, and more. Happy viewing!

Alessia Cara and Joe Jonas host this year’s awards, with scheduled performers including Lorde, Niall Horan, Imagine Dragons, DNCE, Iggy Azalea, Julia Michaels, Post Malone, Jazz Cartier and Arkell. Red carpet coverage preceding the show from 8 to 9pm on E!

My Mother and Other Strangers – 8 to 9pm on PBS – Series Premiere

This five-part drama from BBC Northern Ireland is set in 1943 in the fictional village of Moybeg, where the Coyne family and their neighbours come to terms with the influx of thousands of American servicemen, setting off what the series creator calls an exotic love story.

Grantchester – 9 to 10:30pm on PBS – Christmas Special

This ITV detective drama is set in a 1950s village near Cambridge. James Norton plays Anglican vicar Sidney Chambers whose avocation is solving crimes with the help of Detective inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green).

The Gong Show – 10 to 11pm on ABC/City – Series Premiere

This new version of the 1970s syndicated game show features the same calibre of wacky contestants trying to finish their oddball performances before being gonged by celebrity judges. This revival is hosted by Mike Myers in the persona of comedian Tommy Maitland. (Can they gong a host?)
