(All times are eastern)
Sunday
The Junos – 7pm to 9pm on CTV
Hedley’s Jacob Hoggard hosts the annual celebration of Canadian music. This year, Alanis Morissette is inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame by her Jagged Little Pill producer, Glen Ballard.
The Royals – 10pm to 11:15 on E! (Also Thursday at 9 on CTV)
Elizabeth Hurley stars as Queen Helena, a fictional rule of the U.K. in this juicy drama that shows the public and very private lives of the (well, a) royal family. Dynasty’s Joan Collins plays her mother.
Monday
Dancing With The Stars – 8 to 10pm
The 20th edition of the dancing competition gets underway.
Bates Motel – 9pm on A&E
The third season of young Norman Bates dealing with his mommy issues actually got underway last week and was mistakenly left off the list (my apologies). If you didn’t see last week’s season premiere, it’s on a few times before Monday’s new episode: Friday the 13th at 11pm, Saturday the 14th at 3am and Sunday the 15th at noon.
The Returned – 10pm on A&E
(I offer the same apologies for missing this series, which follows Bates Motel.) This drama series from writer Carlton Cuse is based on a French series of the same name. It sounds very close in premise to ABC’s Resurrection, following the residents of a small town who are stunned when dead members of their family start returning very much alive. You can still catch the first episode on Friday the 13th at 10pm, Saturday the 14th at 2am and Sunday the 15th at 1pm.
Tuesday
Community – online only at Yahoo! Screen:
ca.screen.yahoo.com/community/
Season six of this former NBC series will premiere with a new episode every Tuesday at Yahoo! Screen. Yvette Nicole Brown has left for The Odd Couple and Jonathan Banks has left for Better Call Saul, so Paget Brewster and Keith David have joined the cast as regulars. As the trailer above shows, the gang that remains is as wacky as ever.
Undateable – 9pm on NBC
Chris D’Elia is back for a second season as Danny Burton, who navigates the choppy waters of dating with his gang of misfit friends. Season one was pretty funny, so I have hopes this sitcom could have some staying power.
One Big Happy – 9:30 on NBC
Ellen DeGeneres produces this sitcom about a woman (Kelly Brook) and a man (Nick Zano) who grew up together and are now having a baby together, while dealing with the complications of life as platonic friends; she’s gay and he just fell in love with someone else (Elisha Cuthburt)…and that’s how they all became “One Big Happy”.
Wednesday
Empire – 8pm to 10pm on Fox/Omni2 or City (depending on where you live)
The crazy world of Empire Enterprises that unfolded this season comes to its climactic first-season finale with two hours! (If you want to catch up on the first ten episodes, they are running in a binge-watching marathon on Saturday the 14th from noon to 10pm, and again on Sunday the 15th from noon to 10pm.
The Untold Story of The Sound of Music – 10pm on ABC
The phenomenon that is The Sound of Music celebrates its 50th anniversary in this 20/20 special, where Diane Sawyer accompanies Julie Andrews to Austria to revisit some of the iconic locales where the film was made. It was features interviews with some of the real von Trapps and with some of the fans who make an annual trip to Salzberg to celebrate the movie. There’s also a special appearance by Christopher Plummer, where he talks about what the film and what Julie Andrews means to him.
Melissa & Joey – 8pm on ABC Spark
It was recently announced that this will be the final season for this Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence sitcom, but this week’s episode is the mid-season finale. It returns in June for the final ten episodes.
Baby Daddy – 8:30 on ABC Spark
This one is also cancelled, but unlike Melissa & Joey, it won’t be back with more episodes in June. This is the series finale.
Thursday through the weekend
NCAA March Madness
It’s that time of year again! CBS pre-empts its daytime and prime time programming on Thursdays and Fridays until the basketball finals are complete. (They, of course, continue through the weekend, as well, but it’s the Thursday and Friday pre-emptions that make non-basketball fans grumble the most.)
Friday
Glee – 8pm to 10pm
The once mega-popular musical-comedy-drama bids adieu to its fans with resolutions to storylines and a glimpse at the fates of the characters, with an added tribute to Cory Monteith, who died during the show’s run. Between the emotional scenes and the flying Slushies, tissues or napkins will be needed.
