TV Gord’s What’s On for the week of September 20-26, 2015

All times eastern

By the way, check out our Channel Canada Fall Calendar, too! Let the new season begin!

Calendar

Monday

The Big Bang Theory – 7:30pm on CTV/8pm on CBS – 9th Season Premiere

CTV airs it 30 minutes earlier! Isn’t it great to be Canadian?

The Muppets – 8pm on City/Tuesday at 8pm on ABC – Series Premiere

City viewers get to see this buzz-worthy new, edgy Muppets series a full day early. Now, we’ll probably get the backstory on what broke up Kermit and Miss Piggy. Could her new late night talk show, Up Late with Miss Piggy have something to do with it? TMZ will surely get to the bottom of it. Wait, is the band stoned? Janice, let me look into your eyes! The decidedly adult tone of this series may put some people’s snouts out of joint, but for fans like me—who remember The Muppets before they moved to Sesame Street—this is a welcome development. ABC encourages parents to watch this with their kids, assuring you that the more adult humour will whiz right over their heads. They may be underestimating the kids of today, but all I know is this is the Muppet show that I’ve been waiting for since I was, well, any age!

Life In Pieces – 8:30pm on CBS/City – Series Premiere

This series is being dismissed by many as a Modern Family rip-off, but it still could be a good show. If you give it a try for that reason, then you should only watch one cop show, one medical drama, one legal drama, etc. This one has an impressive cast, including Oscar-winner Dianne Wiest, James Brolin, Colin Hanks (Fargo) and Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad). It’s also a rare Chuck Lorre comedy that isn’t shot as a traditional three-camera sitcom. I understand going in with some skepticism, but I say give it a chance.

Blindspot – 9pm on CTV/10pm on NBC – Series Premiere

A mysterious tattooed woman (Jaimie Alexander) is found in New York’s Time Square. She has no memories, she has no clothes, and the tattoos that cover her body provide clues that a team of FBI agents discover will help them to solve crimes.

Minority Report – 9pm on Fox/Global – Series Premiere

Based on Steven Spielberg’s 2002 blockbuster movie and set in 2065 (11 years after the movie’s setting), this series follows a precog named Dash (Stark Sands) who has the ability to predict—and therefore prevent–crimes.

Castle – 10pm on ABC/CTV – 8th Season Premiere

Also returning on Monday:

Gotham – 8pm on Fox/CTV

The Voice – 8-to-10pm on NBC/CTVtwo – 9th Season Premiere

Scorpion – 8pm on CBS/City – 2nd Season Premiere

NCIS: Los Angeles – 10pm on CBS/Global – 7th Season Premiere

Tuesday

Scream Queens – 8 to 10pm on Fox (also repeated on Thursday at 8 on Fox) Series Premiere

Welcome to Wallace University, where the Kappa sorority is about to have its world turned upside down. You see, there was a murder at the school 20 years ago, and now, someone is exacting revenge for it. Oh wait, that’s not the scary part. It seems there’s this Dean Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis), who hates sororities, and she means to destroy them by letting any geeky girl who wants to pledge to get in. The horror! Anyway, there are a bunch of murders and stuff, and it’s all surrounded by horror and mystery and loads and loads of laughs (so they promise…we’ll see…). If this isn’t an instant hit, it won’t be through lack of trying. The cast alone already makes me smile (in a good way). Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Oliver Hudson, Nasim Pedrad (who should be forgiven for last year’s mess of a show, Mulaney), and the afore-mentioned Scream Queen of them all, Jamie Lee. Add in guest stars from Nick Jonas to Ariana Grande and recurring characters played by Roger Bart, Charisma Carpenter, and Patrick Schwarzenegger. I mean, how can this show lose! Watch out, NCISes! You’re the ones who may be screaming by season’s end!

Limitless – 10pm on CBS/Global – Series Premiere

Did you like the Bradley Cooper movie (see Sunday)? Well, this series picks up shortly after that film ended. Cooper is also has a recurring role as Eddie Morra, so CBS is hoping you’ll tune in on the chance that he’ll show up all-Samuel-L.- Jackson-on-SHIELD-like.

Fresh Off The Boat – 2nd Season Premiere

NCIS – 13th Season Premiere

NCIS: New Orleans – 2nd Season Premiere
