Sunday
Lost Girl – 9pm on Showcase – 5th Mid-Season Premiere
The final eight episodes of the series finds Bo hell bent on fighting her greatest foe yet, leading her down a path that leaves her questioning everything she has ever known about herself. (Other showings of the season premiere this week: Friday at 9pm, Saturday at 7am.)
Monday
Inspector Gadget – 6-to-7pm on Teletoon (two episodes) – Series Sequel/Premiere
The inept cyborg detective is back with a new series (with actor Ivan Sherry replacing the late, great Don Adams). When Gadget’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Claw is thawed out of an iceberg, he reactivates his evil organization, MAD (what that stands for is still unclear). This prompts Inspector Gadget to come out of retirement to stop Claw. He’s now joined by his 14-year-old niece, Penny, as an agent-in-training. The creators of this new version say this will be funnier (which won’t be difficult, in my opinion) and Dr. Claw will not be as evil. This first season contains 26 episodes (the first two run back-to-back for the premiere; subsequent weeks will feature one new episode followed by a rerun). Already renewed for a second season.
CBS Fall Preview Show – 8:30pm on CBS
Jane Lynch (who stars in the new CBS sitcom, Life In Hell, which I will be reviewing later this week…stay tuned…) hosts this half-hour look at the new shows coming up on CBS this fall, which also includes Life In Pieces, Limitless, Supergirl and Code Black.
Tuesday
Get Ace – 6pm on Teletoon – Series Premiere
The animated adventures of high school student Ace McDougal, who is catapulted into a world of super-villains after he is fitted with braces that harness super powers and provide him with his own version of Siri, called HUGO (Holographic User Guidance Operative).
Hot In Cleveland – 8:30 on CTV – NOT the series finale
This is just a note to clarify that—despite what some sources say—this is not the series finale. This is the mid-season finale. The other half of the final sixth season will air later in the season (likely next summer).
@Midnight – 11pm on Comedy/12am on Much (for two weeks)
Chris Hardwick’s comedy/game show hybrid gets a run an hour earlier on Comedy for the next few weeks (as well as its regular time slot on Much) to fill the gap until The Daily Show with Trevor Noah premieres on September 28th.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert – 11:35pm to 12:44am (for the first night) on CBS and Global – Series Premiere
The REAL Stephen Colbert takes over The Ed Sullivan Theater with an extended first show (bumping The Late Late Show with James Corden back to 12:44-1:44am). Stephen’s first guests are George Clooney, Jeb Bush and his new bandleader, Julliard-trained jazz musician Jon Batiste (with his band, Stay Human).
Wednesday
Make It Pop – 7pm on YTV – Series Premiere
This musical comedy series follows three teenage girls who appear to have little in common, but who form a K-pop-inspired band. Although this Canadian-American collaboration is only starting here now, it premiered in the U.S. in April, and they’ve already released four soundtrack albums. It has already been renewed for a second season.
The League – 10pm on FXX – 7th Season Premiere
This final season of the semi-improvised sitcom about a fantasy football league has been getting great buzz that the show is pulling out all of the stops to make it their best season yet and go out on top. We’ll see…
You’re The Worst – 10:30pm on FXX – 2nd Season Premiere
This atypical romantic comedy follows the lives of two commitment-phobes who find themselves falling for each other after meeting at a wedding. Vanity Fair calls it, “The perfect love story for our time”.
Friday
Think It Up – 8pm on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC
The four biggest American broadcast networks team up to simultaneously air this hour-long live fundraising special that aims to build excitement for learning in the classroom. It’s spearheaded by the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the same organization behind the Stand Up To Cancer specials. The show will showcase ways in which students and teachers work together, but also features appearances by stars such as Stephen Colbert, Ryan Seacrest, Kristen Bell, Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Jessica Williams and Nick Jonas.
Z Nation – 10pm on Space – 2nd Season Premiere
The first season ended (SPOILER ALERT) with Murphy, the only human to have survived a zombie attack unscathed, leaving his containment lab without proper decontamination, triggering the launch of nuclear weapons headed straight for him and the lab. Season two picks up right where the cliffhanger left off.
