Sunday
Welcome to Sweden – 8 to 8pm (2 episodes) – 2nd Season Premiere
This peculiar Swedish sitcom is back for a second season on NBC. It stars Greg Poehler (Amy’s Brother) as American accountant who quits his job to move with his girlfriend to her homeland. It’s also loosely based on his life.
Tut – 9pm on Spike – Miniseries Premiere
Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley stars in this six-part Canadian-American miniseries chronicling the life of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun, including some recently discovered revelations about Egypt’s youngest ruler and the power struggles and political backstabbing that dominated his lifetime. Part two is on Monday at 9pm and part three is on Tuesday at 9pm.
Monday
The Spoils Before Dying – 11pm on TMN – Miniseries Premiere
This half-hour pulp-noir seriocomic murder mystery is set in the seedy underbelly of the Los Angeles jazz scene. A follow-up to last year’s IFC miniseries, The Spoils of Babylon (which is on MUCH on Tuesdays at 10pm), it stars Michael Kenneth Williams and Kristen Wiig and an all-star cast of supporting players.
Tuesday
Knock Knock Live – 9pm on Fox
I tend to ignore reality shows and only highlight the most popular ones in this column, and this one may become one of those. Executive Producer Ryan Seacrest surprises people at their homes to make wishes and dreams come true (and it’s done LIVE, so there is no careful editing).
Wednesday
Three-Headed Shark Attack – 7pm on Space
As part of a Sharknado double-feature this movie is pretty much summed up by the title. Passengers on a cruise ship fight for their lives when their boat is attacked by a three-headed shark. Danny Trejo (from the Snickers commercial where he plays Jan Brady) stars.
Sharknado 3: Oh, Hell No! – 9pm on Space
Just when you thought it was safe to sit down for a night of intellectual, mind-enhancing television, it’s the third installment of the Sharknado! This time, Sharks are flying through the air from Washington to Miami. Expect David Hasselhoff and Bo Derek in this one!
Thursday
Cedar Cove – 8pm on W – 3rd Season Premiere
Andie McDowell is back as Judge Olivia Lockhart, navigating the drama and romance of the small lakeside town of Cedar Cove. Cliffhangers from the second season finale are resolved as Olivia still reels from the impact of Jack’s big secrets. Meanwhile, a new district attorney hits the Cove. Could there be a new man in her life?
Good Witch – 9pm on W – Series Premiere
Based on The Good Witch series of TV-movies, Catherine Bell is back as Cassie Nightingale, a sorceress with an equally charmed daughter, Grace. As the series begins, the ladies welcome Middleton’s newest neighbours…or do they? Also stars James Denton (Desperate Housewives).
Aquarius and Hannibal – Special note
If you’re looking for either of these NBC dramas, they have moved to Saturday nights at 9 and 10pm, respectively.
