New TV Code for television service providers: Canadians have the floor!

Today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is giving Canadians the chance to have their say once again and is opening its online discussion forum to gather comments about a draft Television Service Provider Code of Conduct (TV Code).

During the Let’s Talk TV conversation, many Canadians raised a number of issues concerning both their television service and their service provider. From these comments, it was evident that Canadian viewers would benefit considerably from the establishment of a code of conduct for television service providers.

The CRTC heard Canadians and acted. On March 26 of this year, a draft version of the TV Code was published, and a public consultation was initiated. Today, the CRTC is opening its online discussion forum until May 25, 2015, to provide an opportunity for even more Canadians to comment.

Through this consultation, the CRTC is ensuring that the proposed TV Code contains all the essential elements to empower Canadian television subscribers.

The CRTC is seeking comments on the following topics:

In addition to the online discussion forum, Canadians can also continue to send in their comments until May 25, 2015, in any of the following ways:

Quote

“Canadians sent us a strong message that they were encountering problems with their television service providers. The CRTC is acting on these comments and has prepared a draft version of a TV Code that reflects what Canadians told us. I invite them to take an active part in the discussions. Now is the time to shapeyour TV Code.”
