Pet Central returns as The Pet Network launches new season

The Pet Network, the world’s only television network devoted to pets and pet culture, kicks off the 2010-2011 season on Sept. 27 with a lineup of new and returning programs that will appeal to animal lovers of all ages.

The digital channel’s daily flagship series Pet Central, hosted by Candice Batista, will continue to sniff out amazing stories from the world of pets. The half-hour show offers fascinating anecdotes and profiles, along with need-to-know advice and information for pet owners, and a new “Cooking for Pets” segment that dishes out nutritional advice and irresistible recipes.

New additions to prime time include the action-packed series Pit Boss, which follows pit bull rescuer Shorty Rossi as he takes on the daunting task of rehabilitating and training North America’s most misunderstood dogs, and Fatal Attraction, a series that investigates shocking pet attacks and seeks to discover why people bring deadly animals into their homes.

Other network premieres include the reality series DogTown, which goes behind the scenes at the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the U.S., and Off the Leash, which follows a Hollywood talent agency’s search for the next four-legged superstar.

The animated series Kol’s World, the story of a bright-eyed boy in a wheelchair whose natural curiosity and passion for life help him to overcome all obstacles, will join The Pet Network’s daily 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. lineup this season. Mickey, a live action series with animated elements, also returns to the after-school block for a second season. A hit with the network’s under-10 audience, it follows a loveable Sheltie sheepdog as he learns everyday lessons with the help of his trusty human sidekick Megan.

The Pet Network remains Canada’s best destination for animal documentaries. This season’s Pet Docs lineup includes offerings for feline fans, such as City of Wild Cats, the story of a wild cat colony in the ancient ruins of central Rome, and The Science of Cats, which explores the secret world of the common house cat. Other Pet Docs highlights include Saving the Mustang, a Pet Network original that looks at the fight to preserve a living symbol of the American West.

Returning favourites include the family series 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd, the acclaimed BBC reality hit Vets in Practice, and the action-packed Top Dogs, which goes inside the high-stakes world of competitive canine athletics.
