The Pet Network, the world’s only television network devoted to the world of pets, has secured a distribution agreement with Shaw Communications that will make the channel available for the first time to viewers throughout Western Canada.
The digital specialty network, which offers programming for animal lovers of all ages, will launch on Shaw starting today, Wednesday, October 20. Shaw customers will be able to watch a free preview of The Pet Network until Nov. 30, 2010.
Martha Fusca, President and CEO of Toronto-based Stornoway Communications, which operates The Pet Network and its sister stations ichannel and bpm:tv, said: “The Pet Network offers something for everyone who has a place in their heart for animals. We are pleased to have the channel affiliated with our partners at Shaw, and delighted that many more Canadians will now have the opportunity to enjoy The Pet Network.”
Launched in 2004, The Pet Network celebrates pets and the people who love them. Its programming lineup includes the network flagship Pet Central, a nightly magazine series that seeks out fascinating stories from the animal world; family programs such as the original Canadian series Mickey (produced for The Pet Network by Best Boy Productions of St. John’s, Newfoundland); and reality shows such as Pit Boss and DogTown.
Other highlights of The Pet Network lineup include the “Pet Docs” strand of animal documentaries, and the Sunday night movie showcase, “Pet Cinema.”
