Well-Known CP24 Anchor Ann Rohmer Steps Out of the Spotlight After 31 Years

After 31 years in broadcasting and 25 years at 299 Queen Street West, Ann Rohmer has decided to hang-up her microphone mid-June, CP24 announced today. Rohmer is currently host of CP24 Breakfast, Hot Property, and Animal House Calls, in addition to her duties behind the anchor desk. Rohmer will remain the special guest host of Animal House Calls on CP24 and Animal Planet but has taken a position outside of the broadcast industry. Rohmer will break the news to her viewers Thursday morning on CP24 BREAKFAST.

“I’m very lucky. I have had so much fun working in television for the last three decades and I have decided now it’s time to do something new,” said Ann Rohmer. “I’m not retiring, I’m looking forward. I’m leaving at the top of my game! I want to explore life away from the cameras; I want to travel, have adventures, and I’m excited about a big change.”

“Ann is irreplaceable,” said Bob McLaughlin Vice-President and General Manager of CP24. “She has had a long and amazing career in broadcasting and is simply one of the best! Ann Rohmer represents the very best of Toronto. She has held our hand through many events both happy and tragic. We are sorry to see her go, but she will always remain part of our family here at CP24.”

Rohmer’s career has seen significant milestones over the years. Rohmer was the CBC’s first female sports anchor and has interviewed hundreds of the world’s most fascinating people, from Prime Ministers to Presidents, to international superstars like Paul McCartney, Mel Gibson and Tina Turner, to Canadian icons Terry Fox and Rick Hansen.

Rohmer first burst onto the TV scene in 1979, as host of the internationally-syndicated program SHOW BIZ. Moving over to Global Television, Rohmer hosted an award-winning magazine-style show called That’s Life. In 1986, Rohmer found her home at Citytv as a weekend sports anchor. Three years later, she began waking up at 4 a.m. to host Bt — a routine she perfected over a spectacular 12-year run. Ann became the lead anchor for CP24 in October 2001, leading the daytime coverage for Toronto’s only 24-hour news channel. An in-depth bio of Ann Rohmer can be found here.

There are no immediate plans to replace Ann’s position as host of CP24 BREAKFAST.
