CBC’s fall 2019 season kicks off in September with new episodes from returning favourites like BATTLE OF THE BLADES (Sept. 19) and MURDOCH MYSTERIES (Sept. 16), and premiere episodes from new titles including sketch comedy TALLBOYZ (Sept. 17) and CBC Kids title MOLLY OF DENALI (Sept. 2), all of which will be available on CBC Gem concurrently with their premieres on CBC.

● Documentary Now! (Mockumentary, 7×60)All episodes of Season 1 begin streaming Friday, September 6

Hosted by Dame Helen Mirren and starring Fred Armisen and Bill Hader, the six-time Emmy®-nominated DOCUMENTARY NOW! pays loving homage to the world’s best-known documentaries.  Each episode adopts a different style of nonfiction filmmaking to honour the most important stories that didn’t actually happen. Season 1 takes on the stories of Grey Gardens, Nanook Revisited (John Slattery guest stars), VICE News (Jack Black guest stars), The Thin Blue Line and The History of the Eagles (Daryl Hall and Kenny Loggins guest star).

● The Victim (Drama, 4×60)All episodes begin streaming Friday, September 6

Anna Dean’s (Kelly Macdonald) son was murdered fifteen years ago – now she is accused of revealing his killer’s new identity online and conspiring to have him murdered.  Has the anger of a grieving mother turned her into a criminal? What is she capable of doing in her son’s name? Family man Craig Myers (James Harkness) is viciously attacked, after being identified online as a notorious child murderer.  Is he a convicted killer or simply the tragic victim of mistaken identity?  Who is really the victim?

● Travel Man: 48 Hours In…(2 seasons of 4×30)All episodes of Seasons 4 and 5 begin streaming Friday, September 6

Richard Ayodade returns as Travel Man in a new season of the BAFTA-nominated series. Each week Richard and an expertly chosen travelling companion will experience 48 hours away in some of the most desirable destinations in the world.  Season 4 sees him heading to Tenerife with writer, director and actor Lena Dunham, to St. Petersburg with comedian Rob Beckett, Budapest with comedian, actor and writer Aisling Bea, and Miami with comedian Rhod Gilbert. In Season 5, Ayodade heads to Rome with actor and comedian Matt Lucas, to Valencia with comedian Sara Pascoe, Amsterdam with comedian Joe Lycett, and Stockholm with actress Sally Phillips.

CANADIAN FEATURE FILMS PREMIERING IN SEPTEMBER: 

●  Into Invisible Light (Drama, 2018) Begins streaming Saturday, September 14

Supported by the CBC Films fund for female and diverse filmmakers. An isolated person by nature, recent widow Helena Grayson (Jennifer Dale) has been living a life she feels she has not earned, but never had the courage to address. Confronted by odd directives from her late husband’s estate, she is inspired to reawaken a long-buried desire to write, finding herself unexpectedly drawn into a passionate affair with an old flame.  

● Maudie (Drama/Biography, 2016) – Begins streaming Saturday, September 14

Based on a true story, MAUDIE is an unlikely romance in which the reclusive Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) hires a fragile yet determined woman named Maudie (Sally Hawkins) to be his housekeeper. Maudie, bright-eyed but hunched with crippled hands, yearns to be independent, to live away from her protective family and she also yearns, passionately, to create art. Unexpectedly, Everett finds himself falling in love. MAUDIE charts Everett’s efforts to protect himself from being hurt, Maudie’s deep and abiding love for this difficult man and her surprising rise to fame as a folk painter.

Fubar (Drama, 2002) – Begins streaming Friday, September 6

In the smoking pits of high schools and on the tailgates of pick-up trucks in stadium parking lots across North America, there exists a breed of long-haired culture rebels known as Headbangers. Terry and Dean are lifelong friends who have grown-up together: shot-gunning their first beers and exploring the healing power of heavy metal.

● Don’t Talk to Irene (Comedy, 2017) – Begins streaming Friday, September 13

When Irene (Michelle McLeod) – the fattest girl in high school – gets suspended, she must endure two weeks of community service at a retirement home. Following her passion for   cheerleading, she secretly signs up the senior residents to audition for a talent- search reality show to prove that you don’t need to be physically “perfect” to be perfectly AWESOME.

Closet Monster (Drama, 2015) – Begins streaming Friday, September 20

Oscar Madly (Connor Jessup) hovers on the brink of adulthood – destabilized by his dysfunctional parents, unsure of his sexuality, and haunted by horrific images of a tragic gay bashing he witnessed as a child. A talking hamster, imagination and the prospect of love help him confront his surreal demons and discover himself.

● Cosmopolis (Drama, 2012) – Begins streaming Friday, September 27

Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson), a 28-year-old billionaire asset manager, heads out in his tricked-out stretch limo, while remotely wagering his company’s massive fortune on a bet against the Chinese Yuan. His trip across the city turns into a wild, hypnotic odyssey as he encounters explosive city riots and a parade of provocative visitors. Having started the day with everything, Packer’s perfectly ordered, doubt-free world is about to implode.
