Shaw Media and Sony Pictures Television Announce Two-Year Reneweal for Iconic Daytime Series THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Sony Pictures Television and Shaw Media announced today that they have reached an agreement that will extend the run of beloved daytime dramas “The Young and the Restless” and “Days of our Lives” on Global Television, a Shaw Media Network, through the 2015-16 TV season. 

“Since their inception, ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘Days of our Lives’ have continuously revolutionized the soap opera genre and captivated generations of loyal and passionate fans. Sony Pictures Television is proud to continue its fruitful relationship with Shaw Media to bring these iconic daytime dramas to Canadian viewers for years to come,” says Kevin Byles, senior vice president, International Distribution, Canada for Sony Pictures Television.

Now in its 41st year on air, “The Young and the Restless” follows the loves, enmities, hopes and fears of the residents of the fictional U.S. Midwestern town of Genoa City. The series has garnered 434 Daytime Emmy nominations and 123 Daytime Emmy Awards. It has been recognized this year with 26 Daytime Emmy nominations, more than any other show. “The Young and the Restless” is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Company in association with Sony Pictures Television. Jill Farren Phelps serves as Executive Producer with supervising producers John Fisher and Tony Morina and producer Mary O’Leary.  Josh Griffith and Shelly Altman are head writers with co-head writer Tracey Thomson. “The Young and the Restless” airs weekdays on Global TV at 4:30pm ET/4:00 pm PT.

Now in its 49th year, “Days of our Lives” is set in the fictitious U.S. Midwestern town of Salem and follows three core families – the Bradys, the Hortons, and the DiMeras – with multi-layered storylines that mix romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama. The series has garnered a total of 36 Daytime Emmy Awards and numerous nominations, including 14 nominations this year. “Days of our Lives” is produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ken Corday is executive producer, with co-executive producers Greg Meng and Lisa De Cazotte.  Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell are the head writing team. The series airs weekdays on Global TV at 1:00 pm ET/PT.
