Bite TV, a long time supporter of emerging Canadian comedy talent, announces the inaugural Comedy Web Series Competition. Seeking to find the next hit web series, the competition is open to comedy creators, digital content developers and producers with the winner receiving a development deal to produce a comedy web series pilot for Bite.ca.
The competition is open to the first 100 entries received between March 1, 2013 to April 15, 2013. The entries will be reviewed by the Bite TV programming team and then be narrowed down to 3 finalists who will pitch their comedy concepts live to a panel of industry professionals at Second City in Toronto on May 7, 2013. Industry panelists will include representatives from Bite TV,National Screen Institute (NSI) and Bell Media Fund. The competition is seeking comedy pitches that are suitable for digital distribution channels including web and mobile.
“Comedy lends itself very well to short form media content and the competition will create opportunities for new and established producers to have their work distributed across multiple screens,” said Vanessa Case, EVP Programming and Marketing, Blue Ant Media. “We look forward to discovering emerging Canadian talent and providing them with tangible digital development opportunities.”
The competition will be part of a half-day symposium taking place at Second City in Toronto on May 7, 2013 where guest speakers will discuss training, financing options and distribution for web series. This event is being supported by the Canada Media Fund.
The Bite TV Web Series Competitionis open to Canadian applicants 18 years of age or older. Comedy concepts not currently under development at a network, studio or major production company and meeting all other criteria in the official Terms and Conditions are eligible for the competition.
