Women’s Ice Hockey will be in the spotlight on Day 13 of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games with the gold medal and bronze medal games. Canada looks to defend its gold medal against the USA, whom they defeated in the round-robin earlier in the Games. In the Bronze Medal game, Sweden faces Switzerland. Meanwhile, the undefeated Canadian women’s curling team will look to lock up a gold medal as they take on Sweden in the final. Other medal events on Thursday, Feb. 20 include Women’s Figure Skating, Men’s Nordic Combined Team Large Hill, and Women’s Freestyle Skiing Halfpipe.
Olympic Overnight on Thursday night includes the preliminary and final rounds of Women’s Ski Cross as well as the Men’s Curling bronze medal match.

Germany is expected to be the team to beat in this event with overall World Cup Champion and owner of one gold medal already from Sochi 2014, Eric Frenzel, leading the way. France and Japan also boast strong teams and should compete for medals in this event.
ICE HOCKEY: WOMEN’S BRONZE MEDAL GAME – SWITZERLAND VS. SWEDEN (7 – 9:30 a.m. ET) on TSN
Switzerland was 0-2-1 in the preliminary round, but surprised Russia with a 2-0 win in the quarter-finals before losing to Canada in the semifinal. Sweden was 2-1 in the preliminary round then beat Finland 4-2 in the quarter-finals but lost 6-1 to the USA in the semifinal. Sweden has won Olympic silver (2006) and bronze (2002) in Women’s Ice Hockey while a win on Thursday would give Switzerland its first medal in the women’s event and its first Olympic Ice Hockey medal overall since 1948.
CURLING: WOMEN’S GOLD MEDAL GAME – CANADA VS. SWEDEN (8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. ET) on CBC
Jennifer Jones’ Canadian rink has already made Olympic history by going undefeated through the round-robin portion of the competition and will be looking to keep that perfect record intact with a gold medal win over Sweden.
FREESTYLE SKIING: WOMEN’S SKI HALFPIPE (9:15 – 10:45 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet One
Rosalind “Roz” Groenewoud and Keltie Hansen are expected to represent Canada in the Winter Olympic debut of Women’s Ski Halfpipe. Groenewoud is a favourite to win a medal after having won the 2013 World Cup Final and taking silver at the X-Games earlier this winter. Switzerland’s Virginie Faivie and France’s Anais Caradeu should be other athletes to watch.
FIGURE SKATING: WOMEN’S FREE SKATE PROGRAM (10 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET) on TSN
Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond and Gabrielle Daleman are both competing at their first Olympic Winter Games and will be looking to skate personal bests on the Olympic stage. Yuna Kim of South Korea looks to repeat as Olympic Champion while Italy’s Carolina Kostner, Mao Asada of Japan and Russian newcomer, Yulia Lipnitskaya.

Canada takes on the United States for the fourth time in the last five Winter Olympic gold medal games in Women’s Ice Hockey. Canada will be looking for a fourth consecutive gold medal while the USA attempts to climb to the top of the podium for the first time since 1998.

Thompson is coming into Sochi as one of the hottest skiers on the World Cup circuit having won two events already this season. Other skiers to watch include six-time World Champion Ophelie David of France, Switzerland’s Fanny Smith.
