CBC’S Coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Day 12 (Wednesday)

On another busy day for Canadian athletes at Rio 2016, one of Canada’s youngest and brightest stars will begin her pursuit of Olympic Games gold. Eighteen-year-old Brooke Henderson from Smith Falls, ON, is ranked third on the LPGA tour and is favoured by many to win the first-ever Olympic Games women’s golf tournament. She will begin her quest for the podium on Wednesday when the first round begins.

In athletics, Canada’s Damian Warner will be looking for a good start in the men’s decathlon with the first five disciplines being contested on Wednesday. Warner will be up against a tough test in the USA’s Ashton Eaton, the reigning Olympic Games decathlon champion. On the track, Andre De Grasse and Aaron Brown will vie for spots in the men’s 200m final.

Other Canadians in action on Wednesday include: Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benfeito in women’s 10m diving; Tory Nyhaug in cycling BMX; wrestlers Jasmine Mian, Michelle Fazzari and Dori Yeats; and the Canadian men’s volleyball team taking on Russia in a quarter-final.

Coverage will be available on TV across CBC, TSN, TSN2, Sportsnet and Sportsnet ONE. Viewers can also watch CBC’s live streaming coverage at cbc.ca/olympics, on CBC’s app for Rio 2016 for iOS and Android devices and in virtual reality using the CBC Olympic Games Virtual Reality app.
