Olympic Primetime Recaps Comptetition Highlights for Monday, February 10th

Canada took home gold in Men’s 1500m Short Track Speed Skating and a gold and silver in Men’s Moguls as well as strong performances in Women’s 3000m relay and Women’s 500m semi-finals.

SPEEDSKATING: MEN’S – 1500m SHORT TRACK FINAL
Charles Hamelin took Gold this morning in the Men’s 1500m Short Track Speed Skating final. This win secured Hamelin his fourth Olympic medal, but as a medal favourite in three other events, he is poised to become the most decorated Canadian Olympian of all time. 

SPEEDSKATING: WOMEN’S — 3000M RELAY TEAM
The Women’s 3000m relay team: Marianne St. Gelais, Valerie Maltais, Jessica Gregg, Jessica Hewitt and Marie-Eve Drolet advance to the finals. They will go on to compete against the reigning World and Olympic Champions from China.
 
SPEEDSKATING: WOMEN’S – 500M
Canada’s Marianne St. Gelais, Valerie Maltais and Jessica Hewitt all advanced to the Women’s semi-finals in 500m.

ALPINE SKIING: WOMEN’S SUPER-COMBINED SLALOM FINAL

Marie-Michele Gagnon, the lone Canadian in the race, was skiing with a dislocated shoulder. Sitting 21st after the Downhill portion, Gagnon crashed in her slalom race and received a DNF. Germany’s Maria Hoelf-Riesch won the gold medal, with Nicole Hosp of Austria taking silver and American Julia Mancuso ending up with the bronze.

FREESTYLE SKIING: MEN’S MOGULS

All four Canadians advanced to the Men’s Moguls Freestyle Skiing finals and Canadian Alexandre Bilodeau made Olympic history by winning gold again.  Teammate Mikael Kingsbury captured the silver medal.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY: CANADA VS. FINLAND

 In their second game of the tournament, Canada faced off against Finland and battled a grueling third period to come out on top with another shut out win of 3-0.

CURLING: MEN’S & WOMEN’S

Canada’s Brad Jacobs and his team beat Germany this morning and went on to challenge Switzerland, where they lost (5-4) in the round robin.

 Jennifer Jones recorded a win over China in their first game of the Winter Olympics.
