Saloon Media’s UFO Town Lands on CBC and CBC Gem; Film Re-examines One of the Most Controversial UFO Cases in History

Saloon Media’s new one-hour CBC Docs POV, UFO Town (1×60’; HD), set to land on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service, will surely open up age-old debates from passionate UFO enthusiasts after the film’s exclusive premiere on Friday, March 26 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT). Audiences will join UFO Town as the documentary revisits the mysterious UFO case from West Carleton, Ontario. The case made international headlines and went viral over 30 years ago after a top-secret “declassified” letter and video emerged, claiming a UFO spacecraft had crash-landed in the region. UFO Town weaves together two compelling narratives in an attempt to uncover the human side of this interstellar story: the first, an investigation into what prompted someone to kickstart this alien frenzy; the second, present-day interviews with local residents in the area who witnessed UFO sightings and are convinced this incident happened at their doorstep; and locals, authorities and experts who argue that it was a sophisticated hoax.

UFO Town follows filmmakers, led by Saloon Media’s production executive, Nick Crowe, as they delve into the declassified documents, photos and video evidence sent to Canadian and American UFO investigators in the early 90s. While the materials did not appear to be doctored, many people believed they were credible and thus sparking word of mouth conversations and feverish news coverage, including hit U.S. programs such as Unsolved Mysteries traveling to Canada to cover the case. As a result, West Carleton became a hotspot for UFOlogists throughout the early 90s and even attracted the attention of the RCMP to investigate the area of the supposed UFO crash.

The one-hour documentary also includes interviews with local residents who revisit their memories with emotional clarity and conviction when detailing their own experiences with UFO encounters, from witnessing a flying saucer gliding down the road, to blinding lights coming through windows, and face-to-face encounters with aliens. UFO Town concludes with a call for consideration, that UFO believers should no longer be envisioned as a “tinfoil hat” crowd, but instead should be taken seriously and portrayed more accurately as the person living next door.

UFO Town is produced by Saloon Media, a Blue Ant Studios company. Nick Crowe serves as Producer and Catie Lamer is the Director. Michael Kot and Betty Orr serve as Executive Producers for Saloon Media. Blue Ant International handles the documentary’s international licensing. UFO Town was produced in association with CBC.
