The KIDS are back in KIDS IN THE HALL: DEATH COMES TO TOWN on CBC Television

After 15 years, three tours, and countless film and television roles, the Kids in the Hall are finally back together, playing 20 never-before-seen characters in their long awaited reunion, debuting on CBC Television on Tuesday, January 12 at 9 p.m.

KIDS IN THE HALL: DEATH COMES TO TOWN features the original five Kids, Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson, in a distinctively quirky, gender-bending, boundary-pushing eight-part comic murder mystery series.

In the flavour of the original series, the Kids play almost all the characters — men, women, and a gothic grim reaper. Each episode is a half-hour, but unlike a sitcom, the series has the ongoing narrative engine of the murder mystery – a completely new kind of television show. KITH fans will see a few of their old favourite KITH characters make guest appearances.

“The Kids are back together and CBC is delighted to reunite them with their legion of fans.” said Kirstine Stewart, general manager, CBC Television. “Viewers will be thoroughly entertained – there is nothing like this on television.”

In the first episode, Death arrives in Shuckton, Ontario on a bus, while the town awaits news about its bid for the next Olympic Games. Shuckton is rocked when one of its most distinguished citizens is found murdered and everyone is implicated. As a suspect is arrested and the trial plays out, no one is left untouched, with many dark secrets surfacing throughout the run of the series.

“The CBC was our original home,” said McCulloch. “They always allowed us the freedom to do our stuff when no one else would, and they have afforded us the same respect this time. I don’t think we could do what we do without being censored anywhere else in Canada or the U.S.”

Bruce McCulloch conceived KIDS IN THE HALL: DEATH COMES TO TOWN and also executive produces the series. The show is co-written by all five Kids and is directed by Kelly Makin (Brain Candy, Mickey Blue Eyes) and produced by Susan Cavan of Accent Entertainment.
