Tara Nelson Announced as Anchor of CTV NEWS AT SIX

CTV Calgary announced today that news anchor and foreign correspondent Tara Nelson will become anchor of CTV Calgary’s CTV News at Six, beginning mid-November

“We’re excited that Tara has chosen to work in our newsroom,” said Len Perry, Vice-President and General Manager, CTV Calgary. “With more than 20 years of broadcasting experience, she will be a very valuable member of our team.”

Originally from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Nelson has spent the past two years in London, England as the European Bureau Chief for GLOBAL NATIONAL. She has reported on major stories throughout the world, including extensive coverage of Canadian troops in Kandahar, Afghanistan, the 2010 World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa and the 9/11 attacks.

“I am thrilled that Tara will be joining our news team,” said Darrel Janz, Senior Anchor, CTV Calgary. “Her credentials are impeccable and she is respected as one of our country’s top journalists. With Tara in place, the timing is perfect for me to step back a little from the anchor desk and concentrate on another passion – telling stories.”

As the station’s senior anchor and producer, Janz will continue playing a pivotal role in the newsroom and will remain at the anchor desk for his loyal weekend audience. In the upcoming months, Janz will take on a specialized reporter role. “I’m looking forward to taking some road trips and telling some inspiring stories about the people who live and work in southern Alberta,” said Janz.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have had Darrel at the helm of our news team for the past 37 years,” said Perry. “And we’ll continue to benefit from his many years of experience.”

“I’m confident that Calgarians will welcome Tara into their homes as they have with me for almost four decades,” said Janz.

Prior to her role as the European Bureau Chief, Nelson was GLOBAL NATIONAL’s weekend anchor and one of the B.C. correspondents. She began her broadcast journalism career in 1991 in Terrace, B.C. and moved to Red Deer briefly before landing a position at ITV (now Global Edmonton), where she both anchored and reported, specializing in consumer/investigative stories, before joining CHEK Victoria. She later moved to BCTV (now Global BC), and then Global National. Tara’s personal passion is travel. She has explored more than 20 countries.
