W5’s Hour-Long Documentary Special LOVE & LEGACY: THE ROB STEWART STORY Explores the Life and Final Work of the Canadian Filmmaker and Conservationist, Saturday, Oct. 6 on CTV

Ahead of the highly anticipated theatrical release of the Bell Media Original Documentary Sharkwater Extinction, the final work by the late Canadian filmmaker and conservationist Rob Stewart, W5 takes viewers behind the scenes with LOVE & LEGACY: THE ROB STEWART STORY, a one-hour documentary special on the creation of Stewart’s final film, airing this Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. ET / PT on CTV, the CTV and CTV News apps, and CTVNews.ca.

In their first in-depth interview since Stewart’s tragic diving accident off the coast of the Florida Keys, the Stewart family invites W5 Host and Managing Editor Kevin Newman to their Toronto home to recount their son’s legacy, his devotion to sharks, and his passion for environmental issues. Newman also conducts an in-depth interview with Stewart’s close friend and diving partner, Brock Cahill, who was with Stewart the day he lost his life.

Featuring behind-the-scenes footage of Sharkwater Extinction, which will be released in theatres on October 19, LOVE & LEGACY: THE ROB STEWART STORY provides viewers with an up-close and personal journey of the Stewart family’s mission to complete Rob’s final exposé on the illegal shark fin industry.

“I’m honoured to have interviewed the most important people in Rob Stewart’s life, who continue to work in his memory to advance Rob’s important cause, preserving the survival of shark species worldwide,” said Newman. “In addition to a preview of Sharkwater Extinction before its release, this compelling piece provides our viewers with a brand new and in-depth look into Rob’s extraordinary life and mission.”

Investigating the corrupt pirate fishing trade and illegal shark fin industry, the feature film Sharkwater Extinction is the final work by late filmmaker and conservationist Rob Stewart and will be released in theatres across Canada by D Films. The film is a Bell Media Original Documentary, commissioned by Bell Media’s premium Pay TV services The Movie Network (TMN) and Super Écran. The film recently premiered to rave reviews at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival will have its world television premiere in 2019 on TMN and Super Écran.

In addition to airing Saturdays at 7 p.m. ET on CTV, W5 also airs Saturdays at 10 p.m. on CTV Two and Sundays (see local listings). W5 is also available on demand at CTVNews.ca/W5, and on the CTV and CTV News apps.
