Global News Tops All Network Competitors With an Unmatched 17 RTNDA Regional Award Wins

Global News is pleased to announce its local news rooms across Canada have a total of 17 Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada (RTNDA) regional awards for 2011. Representing six affiliates, Global News has netted more regional awards this year than any other network in the country.

Newscasts from Global Calgary, Global Edmonton, Global Lethbridge and Global Regina have won 11 of a possible 17 awards offered by RTNDA’s Prairie Region. Included in these wins is a clean sweep of the Bert Cannings Award for best small, medium, and large market newscast.

“Everyone at Global News deserves to be congratulated for their hard work, dedication and team effort to create the best news product available today,” said Troy Reeb, Vice President, Global News, Shaw Media. “Shaw Media continues to invest heavily in Global News and these awards are both the proof in the pudding and a testament to the entire team’s commitment to excellence in journalism.”

In addition, Global News has been awarded with RTNDA’s prestigious Bill Hutton Award of Excellence. Given out annually to organizations dedicated to upholding RTNDA’s inherent values, this award recognizes Global News’ devotion to the association and to maintaining the integrity of the broadcast industry as a whole.

Global News’ Alberta Regional Director Tim Spelliscy has also been named the recipient of the already-announced 2011 RTNDA Canada Lifetime Achievement Award. Global Edmonton News Director Michael Fulmes has also been announced as the recipient of RTNDA’s Distinguished Service Award for his work with the association.
