ROOKIE BLUE Returns As Part Of Global’s Summer Schedule

Global’s summer lineup promises to be a real scorcher with the confirmed premieres of Rookie Blue Season 2 and The Hot Zone (working title) both kicking off in June. The two highly anticipated series will lead the network’s exciting summer primetime schedule, as part of Global’s growing slate of compelling and relevant original programming.

“Rookie Blue was an unprecedented success, and The Hot Zone (working title) has all the markings of another hit drama. We know we have another great show on our hands and we’re pleased to have this opportunity to further solidify our relationship with ABC,” commented Barbara Williams, SVP, Content, Shaw Media. “Based on the strength and the excitement surrounding these two shows, they are the perfect pillars to the Global 2011 summer schedule.”

Audiences across North America were captivated by Rookie Blue, and here in Canada, the series became the most-watched inaugural season of any scripted Canadian TV series in two decades – on any network*. Starting Thursday, June 16 – 10pm ET/PT (in simulcast with ABC) this proven fan favourite is back with Season 2 and the training wheels are off 15 Division’s freshest batch of police officers. Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym), Dov Epstein (Gregory Smith), Chris Diaz (Travis Milne), Traci Nash (Enuka Okuma) and Gail Peck (Charlotte Sullivan) are more experienced and eager to get into high gear, but are just beginning to realize that when it comes to getting good at this job, there are no shortcuts. And when you’re a rookie officer, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

The following week, The Hot Zone (working title) makes its eagerly awaited debut on Tuesday, June 21 – 10pm ET/PT (in simulcast with ABC). A fictional medical procedural set in 2006 at the only military hospital providing advanced surgical care in all of Southern Afghanistan, this highly-charged series charts the frantic lives of the hospital’s resident doctors and nurses from Canada, America, the U.K. and other allied countries. Already creating a sensation within the industry, the series follows the characters as they navigate their way through the relentless life-and-death battles on the operating table, and the never-ending conflicts that arise from working in a war zone military hospital. The Hot Zone stars Elias Koteas (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), Michelle Borth (“Hawaii Five-0”), Luke Mably (“The Gates”), Deborah Kara Unger (“The Hurricane”), Terry Chen (“Sanctuary”) and Arnold Pinnock (“The Listener”). The Hot Zone is currently filming on location in Toronto.

Global’s complete summer schedule will be announced in the coming months.
