Amy Price-Francis stars in the Canadian Original series KING

Amy Price-Francis (The Cleaner, 24, Californication) stars as Jessica King in King, the Canadian original cop drama about a seasoned police officer turned lead investigator for Toronto’s Major Crimes Task Force. King features eight hour-long episodes premiering Sunday, April 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT only on Showcase.

When Detective Sergeant Derek Spears (Alan Van Sprang; The Tudors, Cra$h & Burn) has a televised meltdown, Jessica King is called in to lead the Major Crimes Task Force – a police division equipped to handle the city’s toughest cases. Surviving eight years in Homicide, two marriages and multiple stab wounds, King is primed for any challenge, except when it comes to passing up a good shoe sale.

“We know that strong, striking female characters resonate with audiences, and Amy Price-Francis’ portrayal of Jessica King embodies that tradition of a brash, multi-dimension female lead. Her undeniably magnetic performance will have Showcase viewers hooked,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media.

“Jessica King is disarmingly honest. Unapologetic about her femininity, she is also very smart and wickedly funny,” commented Greg Spottiswood, Co-Creator and Co-Executive Producer. “There is nothing traditional about her. She is drawn to police work but questions whether that life is compatible with her dream of a child and family. Can she have it all?”

King also stars Gabriel Hogan (Heartland, The Kennedys) as Danny Sless, Jessica’s third husband and fellow police officer, and two-time Genie Award winner Tony Nardi as Police Chief Peter Graci. Suzanne Coy (Dan for Mayor) plays Eleni Demaris, Jessica’s trusted subordinate, Zoe Doyle (The Border) as Det. MK Gordon, and ACTRA Award winner Aaron Poole (Cra$h & Burn) as Det. Jason Collier round out the stellar cast.

The series was co-created and is executive produced by six-time Gemini Award-winning producer Bernard Zukerman (Love and Hate, Million Dollar Babies) and award-winning screenwriter Greg Spottiswood (Shattered). Emmy Award®-nominated director Clark Johnson (The Wire, The Shield) directed the first two episodes.

King is produced by Indian Grove Productions, in association with Shaw Media, and was filmed on set and on location in and around Toronto.
