It all began with a rocket-propelled car. When it premiered on Discovery in 2003,MYTHBUSTERS set out to test whether – or not – attaching rockets to a car could make it fly.
Discovery celebrates a decade of the now-iconic series with the premiere of MYTHBUSTERS: BLAST FROM THE PAST onMonday, May 20 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, a one-hour retrospective special featuring the most audacious, most astounding, and utterly unbelievable myths and moments from the last 10 years. But a big birthday deserves an even bigger event – leading up to theBLAST FROM THE PAST special, Discovery will revisit the very best episodes from the series so far with a Top 10 Marathon – as voted by Discovery viewers – beginning at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT. Viewers can visit Discovery.ca to view clips and vote on their favourite episodes to run during the marathon.
Hosted by Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, along with Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara, 10 years of MYTHBUSTERS has inspired a generation to inquire, interact, and get involved with science. MYTHBUSTERS uses a signature brand of explosive experimentation to prove or disprove popular myths, misconceptions, or legends. Over the past 10 years, the team has tested 885 myths, filmed over 7,200 hours, created 815 explosions… and used nearly 40,000 meters of duct tape!
As MYTHBUSTERS continues in its regular Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT with new episodes beginning May 26, Season 10 starts with a special episode looking back at the first myth that they ever tested 10 years ago, finding out if a rocket-propelled car can actually fly. Other highlights in the 10th Anniversary Season include a BREAKING BAD crossover episode; an epic collaboration with the DEADLIEST CATCH captains; and an episode featuring Indycar driver Ryan Briscoe and Olympic runner Wallace Spearmon.
Also this season, Hyneman, Savage, and the rest of the MYTHBUST-ing crew tackle the following urban myths and legends:
• Can power naps taken over a 30-hour period double someone’s performance, as opposed to staying awake for 30 hours straight?
• Is a crab pot really indestructible like the DEADLIEST CATCH captains claim it is?
• Which is more sanitary: drying hands with a hand dryer or a hand towel?
• What is the best way for someone to protect themselves during an earthquake?
• Is it actually possible that Indy racing drivers sweat so much that they can lose 4.5 kilograms of body mass per race?
• Are women better than men at multitasking?
• Can explosives really be used to help paint a room?
