Proper Television looks set to cement their reputation as Canada’s go-to producer for all things auto with the launch of its utterly insane new show Last Car Standing. And the star of this show is undoubtedly the 36 foot giant metal spike where 4 of every 5 cars appearing on the show wind up meeting a grisly end. This is Proper’s latest foray into the car world after 8 record-breaking seasons as the producer of Canada’s Worst Driver, which continues to be among the most popular shows on Canadian cable.
Airing on Discovery Canada, Mondays at 10pm ET starting April 22, 2013, each episode introduces five tired cars and the owners that love them. It’s a death or glory elimination format where the worst performing car in a series of escalating challenges gets the spike. When the rust has finally settled, four cars stand skewered on what amounts to a giant car kebob, and the surviving vehicle gets to live again . . . rewarded with a $10,000 automotive upgrade. Unless the car’s owner takes a pass on the ten grand and elects to battle once again in the final episode for a complete $50,000 automotive resurrection.
Drivers will be kept on track by series host Christian Potenza. Potenza will cheer on contestants as they push their cars to the limit, and will provide a shoulder to cry on when those faithful vehicles are finally laid to rest.
“The cars in Last Car Standing are unpredictable and the challenges are demanding,” says Guy O’Sullivan, President, Proper Television “Anyone who has ever had to rely on a beater will be able to relate to the love-hate relationship these drivers have with their automobiles.”
Last Car Standing is an original format for Proper Television. It is executive produced by Guy O’Sullivan, with Blair Ricard as series producer and Wayne Moss directing.
Proper Distribution, Proper Television’s new in-house distribution arm, will launch with Last Car Standing as both a format and a finished show.
Casting is currently taking place in the GTA for Season 2 of Last Car Standing. Beater- drivers can apply at www.lastcarstanding.com.
Christian Potenza:
Potenza’s first television role was a rookie cop on a soap opera and was quickly followed by small parts as crooks, criminals, and strung out surfers. Then someone thought that it would be a good idea to put this talented and versatile actor in commercial, and BOOM! Now this guy was everywhere, and soon earned the title of THAT GUY. Christian now voices characters on many of North America’s most popular shows including Sidekick, Almost Naked Animals, Total Drama and Detentionaire. His production company has projects ranging from animation to feature films, including the critically acclaimed Moon Point.
