documentary Channel’s June Highligts

This June on documentary channel, see acclaimed documentaries that probe our sports, cultural, and artistic worlds with three documentary channel premieres. LAST WOMAN STANDING, follows two female boxers who fight for their Olympic dream. DADS: AN EXPLORATION INTO COMTEMPORARY FATHERHOOD explores contemporary fatherhood, as men share their experiences, challenges, and passions for their children. In GREGORY CREWDSON: BRIEF ENCOUNTERS, see how acclaimed photographer Gregory Crewdson creates his images through elaborate days and weeks of invention, design and set-up. Finally, BOREDOM, is the first film to look directly at the worldwide epidemic of boredom despite the action-packed world we live in.

On documentary channel in June:

LAST WOMAN STANDING – documentary Channel premiere
Wednesday, June 5, 7 p.m. ET /10 p.m. PT
LAST WOMAN STANDING,
is a documentary channel original production, and was recently voted as a Top Five Audience Favourite at the 2013 Hot Docs Festival. This documentary follows world champion boxers and former friends, Ariane Fortin and Mary Spencer, as they fought for their Olympic dream in London 2012 – A dream that could only belong to one. This is Juliet Lammers’ and Lorraine Price’s debut feature documentary film.

DADS: AN EXPLORATION INTO CONTEMPORARY FATHERHOOD – documentary Channel premiere
Monday, June 17, 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT
Seven Dads. Seven Cameras. Three Cities.  As Derek hopes to adopt his partner’s son, Cameron deals with overbearing financial responsibilities, Greg explores home-schooling, David restructures his personal ambitions, and Brett watches his daughter fight for her life, DADS shows the real side of fatherhood in a way never seen before. These seven dads give firsthand accounts of their passion for being with their children, the sacrifices they’ve made and the joys that they receive. DADS is a special movie for the whole family.

GREGORY CREWDSON: BRIEF ENCOUNTERS – documentary Channel premiere
Sunday, June 23 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT
Acclaimed photographer Gregory Crewdson doesn’t just “take” his images, he creates them through elaborate days and weeks of invention, design and set-up. In his decade-long project Beneath the Roses, he uses light, colour and character to conjure arresting images and managing a crew of 60 assistants amidst seemingly countless logistical and creative obstacles.

BOREDOM
Tuesday, June 25 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT
BOREDOM
looks at the worldwide epidemic of boredom despite our action-packed high tech times. The film exposes new research that reveals that boredom is actually a stress condition and chronic boredom can lead to high risk behaviours such as drug taking, driving too fast and crazy sex. The film takes on school, work and life, and asks “is this all there is?” BOREDOM inspired the first ever Boring Awards held in Toronto in May.
