PERFORMERS

Down With Webster (4 nominations)
Timbaland has called them ”the illest group I’ve ever seen live”, but fans have been Down With Webster (DWW) since the four-time 2011 MMVA-nominated Hip-Hop Rock group formed in 1998 at their junior high in Toronto’s Beach community. After more than a decade of honing their craft through constant writing, producing and gigging, DWW are poised to be the next Canadian international breakout act from the country that has become the hottest exporter of global sensations. In late 2009 DWW released their Gold-certified record, Time To Win, vol. I, which produced three platinum singles (“Your Man”, “Whoa Is Me”, “Rich Girl$”), three number one videos, and millions upon millions of YouTube hits. The band has toured North America relentlessly since the release, sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in music today, including 3Oh!3 and the Black Eyed Peas. In the winter of 2010, they hit the icy road for their first headlining tour across Canada in winter, with a “Much” needed stop in Cancun, Mexico, to host MuchMusic’s SPRING BREAK 2010. Since then they built a massive online following, sold out shows across Canada, electrified the 2010 MMVAs with a live marching band and enough explosions to make a Canada Day celebration jealous, and kicked off the 2011 JUNO AWARDS performances this year with a huge bang. This year, the UR Fave nominees return to blow up the MMVAs stage for the second year in a row, with their full length debut Time To Win, vol. II scheduled to arrive this fall. The first single “She’s Dope” is already lighting up the charts.

Far East Movement ft. Dev (1 nomination)
They bridged the gap between underground party records and mainstream hip-hop and pop.
She has gone Platinum in Canada with her single “Bass Down Low” and has received over 14 million views on VEVO. Together they get ready to tear up the stage at this year’s MMVAs. Far East Movement (also know as FM) are an über hip foursome that blends elements of hip-hop, pop, electro and dance to genre-less music and lifestyle called Free Wired. Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, and DJ Virman, already have to their credit two world tours, numerous song placements on television and film including Get Him To The Greek, CSI MIAMI, and GOSSIP GIRL and a #1 single “Like a G6” (feat. Dev). Meanwhile, Dev isn’t part of just any scene, she’s a scene stealer. Her fun, sexy, mishmash of pop, R&B, dance, hip-hop, and distinct vocals have blasted her singles to the top of the charts including her international hit “Like A G6,” which scored the #1 spot on U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and went three times Platinum in Canada. Dev is finishing up her debut studio album The Night the Sun Came Up while on tour with Usher and Akon on Usher’s OMG Tour.

Fefe Dobson (4 nominations)
Four-time 2011 MMVA nominee Fefe Dobson is as an industry veteran. At just 18-years old, the pop-punk sensation burst onto the music scene in 2003 with the release of her self-titled debut album, which boasted four singles: “Bye Bye Boyfriend,” “Take Me Away,” “Everything” and “Don’t Go (Girls and Boys).” She appeared as Tina Turner in the NBC series, AMERICAN DREAMS, opened for Justin Timberlake’s European tour, and was featured in a Tommy Hilfiger commercial that included “Don’t Go (Girls and Boys).” Her single “Can’t Breathe” is currently in the top 10 on MuchMusic’s COUNTDOWN. Fefe returns to the MMVAs stage to wow fans with a performance from her latest release Joy.

Simple Plan (1 nomination)
Six-time UR Fave winners Simple Plan have a master plan to rock out with their hearts out at the 2011 MMVAs delivering a show-stopping performance. The internationally renowned quintet has earned widespread acclaim and a global fan following for their inventive, genre-defying blend of classic punk energy and modern pop sonics. Since coming together nearly a decade ago, the Montreal-based combo has achieved worldwide sales in excess of 8 million. Their new album, Get Your Heart On!, is due out on June 21.

The coveted wristbands for the 2011 MMVAs are given away on Friday, June 10 during NEW.MUSIC.LIVE. at MuchMusic HQ in Toronto. Stay tuned to Much, muchmusic.com, and follow @muchmusic for more details.

Fans can also watch the 2011 MMVAs in superior HD quality on MuchHD, Bell Media’s newest HD addition, currently available with a summer-long free preview until August 31.
